Diana, What a find!!!!You should be able to find parts since there are still a lot available. Bonne is probably the one to ask! She has a knack for these things!!

wow....
what do the letters on the front say? Singer or Jones?
looks like your handle is bent backwards though..
btw- I am quite jealous...been looking at hand crank machines and drooling for a while...

oooh ooh...does the handle move so the case can be put over it? I'll bet it does...if it is Singer, I think they have the manuels on the site....but Bonne knows all about that...

It is a Singer and the handle is folded up to get into the carry case. What I can find it might be made in New Jersey in the 1900 to 1905. Every thing works and it has a bunch of attachments. The bobbin is nothing I have ever seen but don't know any thing about this machine. And it has a piece missing and I don't even know how to thread and if the piece missing is vital.

Look up on the Singer website for the serial # info. It will tell you the date it was manufactured. Are you missing the shuttle? (holds the bobbin) as it looks to be a model 27/127. Stitchinwitch (judith) would probably know about this handcrank as she has like 100 or so sewing machines. lol
I had an extra shuttle once , but sent it to Maggie for her treadle. They don't make them anymore so you have to find used.
Somewhere here, there is my "treadlin' along" thread with more links to places of help. I can never find it. :(

Ok what does the suttle look like. When you move the crank a pinky size type thing shows up in the hole in the bottom is this a bobbin? I think I have every think except the cover plate that you would take off to get to shuttle or bobbin.

check out the links posted in the "treadlin' along"thread.http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=13263&whichpage=10&SearchTerms=treadle Even though this isn't technically a treadle, it operates and is basically built the same way. Did you find the Singer Serial # info? http://www.singerco.com/support/serial_numbers.html

Yea I think I am only missing the slide plate. How does the shuttle thread? The top part seems standard but the shuttle I have no idea. And which way do you crank? I can also set it up to use a foot petal.

Diana

PS Thanks for all the info.

Diana, What a beautiful machine! Which thrift store did you find it in? I think I might want to visit it more often, LOL.

Do you plan on using it or keeping it for decoration?

BTW: speaking of sewing, have you been to Material Girls yet? They don't carry much, but have wonderful sewing classes. I'm going to take my DD to sew a quilt there. She doesn't like taking instruction on sewing from me. We need to get together soon as the weather clears up a bit more.
