How about vanilla soy milk, or regular milk flavored with any flavor you like?

Dawn you can also use evaporated milk. I have done that and then added in vanilla or almond extract, sometimes a tad bit of both.

Dawn-

Have you tried the coconut milk in the recipe yet??? The flavor disappears and it is very smooth and nice. As an alternative I have found the soy works perfectly! And you can substitute almost any other liquid in most of the recipes. It's a forgiving medium! If you're making the chocolate recipe then try the soy first and see what you think.

PS-just watched Father Goose with Cary Grant and in it he drinks coconut milk (instead of the whiskey he is used to) and he says, sarcastically, "Yum, I bet young coconuts love it!"

how about almond milk..or make your own vanilla flavored milk by adding a little sugar and vanilla extra.
I'm not a big milk drinker/milk fan but when I feel the need for bit of dairy in my diet I mix a little sugar and vanilla extreact in a cup with the milk..tastes almost like a vanilla milk shake.:)
