I have been making peanut butter at home for a few years. I was using my Vita Mix blender and its really a pain plus its hard to get the peanut butter out. I end up wasting more than I want to. I like to add almonds and other nuts to make a mixed peanut butter.
Does anyone have an easier method to make peanut butter? I seen in Lehmens catalog for a wheatgrass juicer and they also said you could make peanut butter but it was really pricey.
Would love and easier way to do this. And after seeing about samonella in the peanut butter on the news makes me want to get back to making it at home again. I like it better anyway, its just my family eats it up really fast.
Update: Found a machine on E-Bay with the help of my son Daniel. Its a Peanut butter machine called a Nostalgia. Its really cool and has different setting to grind from creamy to chunky. Shipping and total cost was $59 dollars. This company had many old fashion machines for making popcorn, and other neat stuff. It comes from a company called Maxtool.com. I am so excited.....I didn't think I could get one that would fit my budget. When I had been looking before all I was finding was the commercial ones which were outraguous in price. I am so thankful my son Daniel knows his way around E-Bay he can find just about anything.
Thanks Linda

Do you have a food processor? When I have made peanut butter before, I use a food processor instead of a blender. That way I can take the blades off and then use a spatula to get it out of the much wider bowl. Very little waste (only the microscopic film you can't really get out- kind of like trying to get every bit of cake batter out).

I do not have a food processor. I would have to purchase one. I have always cut things up by hand or used the vita mix for pureeing. What kind of a food processer did you use and what blade did you put on it ?

Jessie,
I usually use roasted salted peanuts and thats all. When I have extra money I like to add a mixture of the roasted peanuts, pecans, walnuts and almonds. Thats my favorite tasting nut butter. I don't usually add anything else. My son likes to take our honey from our beehives and mix it in a bowl and then spread it on his sandwich or dip apples in it.
You can add what you like to suite your taste. I quick eating regular peanut butter about 16 years ago. I use to buy the natural stuff at the health food store where I use to live.... they ground it fresh and you bought it by the pound....that was the best peanut butter. They had a big machine there. Krogers the grocery store here also sells natural peanut butter under their own brand name. I just don't like the way commercial peanut butter taste ,they add hydrogenated fat and sugars. When you make your own you can control what goes in it and it taste so wonderful.
give it a try you'll like it.

We have a peanut butter grinder in the store I work in - just use roasted peanuts, you can get them in bulk food sections. It is so yummy and since you make it fresh you get all the benefits of no hydrogenated oils without the pain in the butt part where you have to try and stir solid peanut paste and oil together in a very small jar like with Adams or other natural brands Amy Grace

we have something similar to a Quisinart. It has 2 wide, very sharp blades.
I have tried almond butter many times. You have to add a little oil of some kind, but it always comes out tasty and far cheaper! |
