this is a fun 'pattern' web site to check out ... the creator, Sonya Sandell .. is such a 'hoot'! you know you you have someone pictured in your mind based on how she writes or talks? well, some doll-making friends gave me a copy of hickety-pickety's 'newsletter' one day .. i was lying on the sofa reading it .. and i SWEAR .. i 'bout wet my underoos and rolled off the couch at her humor! i IMMEDIATLEY climbed up offa' the floor and ran to the phone to call her to invite her to come teach a class at our doll club.
I started introducing myself and told her i was from Maryland .. and the voice on the other end of the phone immediately asked: "Is this FRANNNIE .. from Crooked Tree Hollow" .. it was VOO-DOO!!! .. i couldn't believe it! She said some friends had told her about our doll club and she had my name and number tacked up by the phone to give me a call!
SERENDIPITY .. is what i called it ... told her she just MUST come teach her delightful dolls! She had never taught a class before .. but accepted ..
now .. miz sonya has a REAL 'salty' tongue .. and i pictured a 'rough and ready' country woman!
When i went to the airport to meet her ... i'm watching (along with everyone else who was awestruck) this incredibly beautiful 'fashion model' coming down the runway .. this woman's jet black hair and 'baby doll' peaches and cream skin took my mind off of finding miz. hickety-pickety ... and i swear .. i'd still be standing there looking for her had she not recognized me from a photo and this gorgeous woman gave me a big hug and introduced herself as 'sonya'.
yep! jus' can't judge a book by it's cover!
well, anyhoo ... she was as FUN as she was BEAUTIFUL! do visit her website .. and if you love 'whimsical' dolls and crafts .. hickety pickety is the one for you!
(she taught us 'bearlings' .. oh .. i'll go take a picture of them in a few minutes and post them.) she was so sweet to my then eleven year old granddaughter and walked her step by step (along with all the other bear-makers) through making a precious bear!
