My husband and I went to see this move Sunday. I have to say I don't do the science fiction thing or the scary or just disgusting type of movies either. So this might seem bias. I really enjoyed a movie that I could relate too. We had a dog named Oslo who was an Akita Lab mix. He had a mind of his own just like Marley. When we lost him we too were very sad. This movie was a tear jerkier but worth the time and money to see. I would give it a 4 out of 5 for family entertainment.

Haven't yet, but I've wanted to. Unfortunately, the nearest theater is an hour from us, and it's real hard to get into town. But I'm still hoping!

My Daughter took my grand daughter to see it and she siad it was not for kids. Way too sad. Everyone was crying. She thought it was going to be a fun happy movie. I see where Frannie from ky. said they saw it and didn't like it. So that is what I heard. I haven't seen it.

It was sad but it's part of having a pet. Even young kids need to know that life does end. Even my dog has past on but the movie reminded me of those happy times and shared in the sadness. If you are upset by the movie Bambi don't go see this. My kids saw Bambi when they were young (4 & 5 years old) but I prepared them for the idea that mothers sometime die and this was just a movie. They were sad but didn't become upset because I had talked to them beforehand. My advise if you have small children and don't want them to cry at the end then don't go. I loved it and enjoyed the whole movie.

I wanted to see it, but I got tired of all the product tie ins I see on TV. Movies seem like one big commercial now-a-days.
I think I will read the book instead.
My friend saw it and balled at the end. She hated it for the ending. (she didn't know)

For those of you who have not seen this, I haven't personally seen it, but I'm not up for a tear jerker. From what I have heard from it, it's an Old Yeller movie....Very good, but you have to explain to the little one's what is happening....I wouldn't call this a pick me up movie....Hope I didn't ruin it for anyone, but I just wanted to agree with Nancy, not a child's movie!

We saw it as a family. My oldest son (age 11) enjoyed it as did DH and I but my other kids lost interest towards the end and were ready to leave and not into the story line, so they didn't get upset. Sadly, while DH and I and our son were crying when Marley died, my younger kids took it to mean the movie was over and we could finally leave so they weren't upset.
If I had it to do over again, just DH and I would've gone to see it and saved the family time for another movie.

Thanks for the warning. I thought it was some cutsie, fun movie and have been wanting to see it. I'm too close to putting a dog down right now to add to the emotions that go with that. Marley and Me will just have to wait - if I ever feel like watching it. Old Yeller made me bawl and I never watched it again. Same with the movie, I Am Legend.

| My son read a book this summer called NO MORE DEAD DOGS. This reminds me of the book. It is about a JrHigh boy that has to write a book report about a book where the dog dies in the end. He writes about how he doesn't like the book and how you just know if there is a dog in a book, it is going to die in the end! |

| Just curious--I read the book and it was also a tear jerker, but I was curious if they went into the wife's post partum bit where he found her beating Marley in the Kitchen...that was enough to make me put the book down for a few days. I realize it happens, but honestly, I wanted to write her a nasty note. I was hoping they would leave that OUT of the film...but, because I'm 8 mos + pregnant, my emotions are already out there, so I'm not likely to see it :) |

They didn't show any beating of the dog but she did go into a rant. She was screaming the dogs got to go! You could tell that this was a very trying time right after the birth.
