Would anyone happen to have a pattern for the "Frilly Dilly" Bag - (The Janelle Wind Collection) that they would like to trade for or even sell? It is the cutest purse, and I'd love to make it, but don't want to pay $25.00 on the pattern, I'm just too cheap I guess...lol. I have lots of stuff to trade for...vintage linens, fabric, mags, craft patterns....Thanks bunches, Kelley

Oh, what a cute bag! Found it for $14 at Treasured Threads, plus shipping.

Here's a link to a picture for everyone to see:

http://www.treasuredthreadsonline.com/photos/the_janelle_wind_collecti/frilly_dilly_bag.html

I'm the kind that always tries to figure out how to make it myself, sans pattern . . . . Maybe you could go that route?

Katie - that's a great picture.

Kelley - I think I figured out how you could make it with a basic cheaper pattern that you may be able to get for free online. It is basically an A-shaped type purse. The "frillies" are just gathered pieces of fabric in assorted colors. They are probably a finished width of about 2". Just measure around your bag where you want them to go, multiply 2 (or 3 depending how frilly you want them), and that will be your length for the strips. After finishing all the strips, run a gathering stitch down the middle, gather to fit, and stitch to your bag. I know this won't give you exact yardages, etc. but if you can find the cheaper (or free pattern), you can estimate from there.

It is a very cute bag! Now that I've seen it, I may have to make one for myself!

Here's another clue as to how the bag is constructed:

http://bloomandblossom.blogspot.com/2008/07/frilly-dilly-bag-after-two-hours.html

I had been wondering if the frills go all the way around -- apparently they do -- just one side seam. Hmmmmm . . .

Thank ya'll so much!!! What a help! I have made many totes and bags by just using my imagination and no pattern, but that is such a cute purse, that I would actually want it to come out EXACTLY the way it looks in the pic....lol...I'm still not an expert seamstress, but I try like the dickens to make things work....Hopefully I can pull it off!!~! I think it may be the frills are made from tubes finished up 2 inch width and one seam down the middle to gather. I think a tube would make a nice smooth clean edge. If not made from tubes then the strips would all have to be hemmed on both sides and be thinner. Know what I mean?
let's have a swap!!! yippee!!

UHM Do I have time for another one????????
YES I DO!! LOL enter me too, what the heck!!
I LOVE that frilly purse, it is SO cute! And indeed Linda, a tube would work well, but also one with 2 seams, if the material is flowy enough. If ya know what i mean ;)

I'm googling 'frilly dilly bag' like crazy! and found this one:

http://quiltfabricdelights.typepad.com/quilt_fabric_delights/2008/07/index.html

and this one

http://bloomandblossom.blogspot.com/2008/05/serendipity.html

Notice that all have a solid fabric for the purse body and then some outstandingly wonderful coordinating fabrics for the ruffles. That's the key, I think -- really work those colors and patterns.

I'm dreaming up a variation for a young girl -- wouldn't that be fun? Maybe for Valentine's day?

Not joining the swap -- see the swap details in the Sewing forum -- but hope you all have fun!!

I had an email exchange with the designer earlier tonight and I posted it in the swap! She is sooo sweet! I think we all should buy the pattern to support a fellow crafter!

dutchy.....let me take a wild guess...you want yours PINK????
I don't want to spend money on a pattern so I'll make one from looking at the pic...I'd call it a hobo bag style with the ruffles added.

I can't afford to buy the pattern so I'd like to know if it's ok to make my own version of a ruffly bag.
