Just the thing if you have extra apples that are perhaps not as crisp as they were, and want to avoid a whole bunch of white sugar in your apple butter. My hubby likes it! My first canning project in eons.
I discovered the crockpot apple butter thing this fall when our neighbors had a bumper crop of apples and were'nt using them! Its the easiest!!! I gave it for Xmas and hostess gifts and I swear people thought I had labored for hours cooking it outdoors in a copper kettle!I also made chutney in the crockpot and it turned out to be a hit too.
My family always made their applebutter outside in a copper kettle. I did the crockpot style and it turned out awesome. I would like to try the honey type. Does it get dark like when you use br sugar?
Just a reminder...I had to remind myself on the second batch I made :-)
**addition: it had been a while since I canned anything, so remember...heat differences are a no no! make sure your jars are sitting in hot water to stay warm and your apple butter is just-cooked and still warm! temperature differences are a problem...don't put cold jars in a boiling water bath, or they may break.***
