a friend and I have worked out an arrangement to share meat animals this next spring. He's gonna raise a hog and DD and I will raise a lamb. In the end we will both get half of each. Along with that I want to freeze more fruits and veggies.

My question is: I'm thinking of buying a vacuum packer (home version). Does anyone have recommendations, pros and cons, do's and dont's? I figure if I know what to look for I can keep an eye out at the thrift.

Thanks,
Jenn

We have a vacusealer which is a bout ten years old. It works pretty well. We have had meat that has been sealed up for a couple of years that is still good. However, on our last visit to a kitchen store I saw some new ones and I think the newer ones are better; so if you can save your pennies to get a new one you will be happier. I definitely think these pay for themselves!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE mine! I couldn't be without it now! The plastic bags can be expensive but they are made to be re-usable.
