WOW!!! I live on the east side of the state, right on the Canadian border,This has turned out to be quite the winter, first, nothing, balmy and cool, but, no cold, and now 35 below with the wind chill, our temp is 5 * but, the wind(35 to 40 mph), the old timers here say it is called a "lazy" wind, too lazy to go around you, so it goes right through you!!!!

In this part of the state it is about 15 degrees, also quite windy and snowing. The schools were on 2 hour delays - the kids were hoping they'd cancel school altogether - and it is still snowing. The normal high and low for today are 44 and 30, but the paper predicts 16 and zero. Brrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

Terri,I feel for you with the wind. Our wind finally stopped this morning and it was miserable outside. We've got so many water heaters plugged into every outdoor outlet that the breakers have been blowing...just pulling so many amps at one time with no let-up. Still in the low teens today here at noon, doubt it's going to go any higher although I see the sun shining on the hills above us.

we are not as cold as you girls to the northeast of us, but here in Portland the wind was blowing on Sunday. Snow coming down and it was cold, dry and a complete white out at times. Today the wind has stopped, but still cold - high around 27 today, suppose to be colder tomorrow and in the teens at night. More snow predicted on Wednesday and then again on Sunday. What a difference from a couple of days ago when it was in the 40's and dry.

Try to stay warm

We are having so much fun, aren't we? My furnace has not stopped for two days, except a bit at night. I keep the house at 65 degrees and it takes all day to get there. Ha! Good thing I have my little baby boy, Dash to keep me warm!

16 degrees here right now & Snowing. Inside house is between 68 & 70 degrees. Depends on which room I am in.. The living room or family room... Kitchen in between and heat manages to stay about 68. Electric heat forced furnace. I think I am getting old. I have warm cords on w/"silky Underwear, a turtle neck shirt and a zip up sweater on right now & I still feel chilled maybe a cuppa tea will warm these bones.. perhaps better yet, a bubble bath & a hot toddy?

This is big weather for San Diego county! This was the first time in eons that the forecasters could call for a 100% chance of rain in the whole county. Here in the mountains, our high today was 40; winds at 30mph, gusting to 50+ mph.Rain/sleet/trying to snow all day. Low tonight 30. Calling for snow on Wednesday! Can't get the living room (where the stove is) above 60 and the bedroom is a cool 50. Feeling thankful I don't live in a tent or on the streets.

Now they are saying between 6" to 8" of snow to the valley floor overnight Wednesday and Thursday. We will see, suppose to warm up a bit for that and then get cold all over again. Still crunchy and icy this morning on the way to work - thank God for a Subaru.

Marybeth, love the bike pic. You have way more snow than we do. Watched all of the school delays on the news this morning for the west side of the state...Kennewick seems to be having troubles too. We are cold (-2 this morning) but not much snow yet. Due today they say.

We keep the thermostat turned down too, oh that power bill this time of year! Lots of layers of clothing and I wear a scarf inside on days like these. That seems to keep me snuggly and warm in addition to my wool socks.

It was -8 below zero here this morning. The high for the day was 8 above zero. I am very thankful the wind finally abated. COLD is bad enough but the wind...walking into the north wind to feed the sheep at the barn was bone chilling even with a scarf over my face. The stock has been eating like crazy. Went to pick up an egg in the chicken house yesterday and it exploded in my hand as soon as I touched it - it was almost frozen solid. I shudder to think what the power bill will look like - it seems like the heat is always kicking on - electric boiler and pellet stove. I keep the thermostat low and wear lots of clothes. They are predicting another snow storm tomorrow. I hope this arctic blast moves off soon.

Me too Sheri - as far as it moving off, it looks like it may be here for a while though. This is nuts!! But yes, the wind has died down, so thank heaven for small favors.

Last night it was -14 here in Delano, when I drove by the thermometer at school, and the windchill was -30+.
It was worse up North of here on the Iron Range.
I love that lazy wind saying-it is so true!!!
Today it snowed an inch-just enough to make it messy on the already icy roads.
Yay-I love the winter. Okay, I am just kidding.
Tomorrow it will be a balmy 10 degrees. Is it sad that I am looking forward to that? LOL

I will just keep wearing my trusty sleeping bag coat. (that is what my daughter calls it) It is a down Eddie Bauer coat that is so long it hits my ankles. Just perfect for this weather.

Stay warm, ladies. At least it looks like you'll get a White Christmas.

Well we got a ton of snow overnight and schools are closed and I am snowed in again. I did manage to dig my car out and thaw it yesterday and get out and go to the store. At least it is not so bitter cold---still cold but high 20s instead of teens and below. so here I am again. MB

I saw your snow on the news this morning, MaryBeth. My daughter lives in Everett and I worry about her because she's got an old car that isn't so reliable and I'm sure she has bald tires. She moved to the west side to get citified and not have to deal with our winters here...so much for that idea.

We got snow overnight but seem to be the warm spot on the east side of the mountains at 11 degrees.

Been feeding extra to the stock but fortunately we have plenty of hay and lots of stock water heaters. I am thankful for electricity today!

Kate, I have a Eddie Bauer "sleeping bag coat" too! Got it when we lived in Minnesota. My morning routine here is to read the Hi and Low temps for the day before to my husband. The other day good ole Embarrass Mn took the prize with -32! That's not windchill, actual temperature! Jim wanted to move to Northern MN (from St. Paul) and I said no way! Stay warm. JoAnn

Heat wave this morning - all of 8 above - sure beats -8 below. It's snowing but it's the pretty kind - champagne powder. I still have to slog around in it but from inside it's really beautiful. Hopefully the eggs won't be frozen this morning! Back to my candy making. The holidays are sneaking up fast. Have a safe and warm day.

Jami, according to my daughter who lives in Marysville and drives through Everett to get to her work--there wasn't much snow in Everett. so rest easy about your daughter. We have about 10 inches of the new stuff. My son in law brought up the boys in his 4X and said the roads up here are bad and of course he was having fun squirreling around in it. So I am homebound for a few more days. MB

We have freezing rain this morning - on top of snow we got during the night, which is on top of ice we have had for a couple of days. I'm not planning on going out at all today!

Well I tried to go to work, it was a NoGo, cant get off my road in my little car. Ugh I need to get some snow tires or chains, this is crazy!! No signs of it letting up either. If they would just plow it might be okay, but no they sit on the side of the road waiting for the Okay.Just insane...

A long day. We had between 18 and 24 inches of snow overnight plus it snowed all day. I shoveled snow for 6 1/2 hours today. Big gates are a real drag when it snows. The guy who plows snow for me finally showed up at 4:45 and plowed me out in the dark. Record snowfalls are not fun. Granted the snow is pretty to look at but awful to move. After a record snow year last year I really hoped we'd get a more moderate and normal snow season this year. Hopefully this won't be indicative of the way the rest of the season is going to go. I hope all is well with everyone else- lots of us in the same boat. At least it was warmer - all of 14 above but they say we'll be back sub-zero by Saturday.

Those coats are great investments!

I think Embarass also holds the record for lowest temp ever in the state of Minnesota.
Or maybe that was "Frostbite" Falls. (Remember Rocky and Bulwinkle?)
