This time last year, my dh and I signed a contract with an HVAC company for a three part installation of heating/air at our old farmhouse(I posted under Farmhouse renovation/restoration). The first part was an $8,000. down payment. The second and scariest part was $10,000 deferred until March 09. But we've scrimped and saved and last September,I wanted to pay half the $10,000 and then pay half of the remainder in Dec. and the balance by my birthday in January. We had extra money coming in and it was going to work out. But the week my dh was going to pay the 5k, he just 'took a notion' to read the fine, very fine, need a magnifying glass print. Surprise! It said that if we paid ANYthing at all less than the entire balance, we would owe ALL the accrued interest(close to 2k)!!!. As old as I am, and as savvy as I thought I was, this one was too close for comfort! They almost got me!!! So please, ladies, this is just a reminder....don't get caught with your guard down, ever! Always read ALL the print, even if you need a magnifying glass!!!!

And my dh and I are celebrating the payment of the ENTIRE 10K(goodbye to part two)!!!!! We DID IT!!!! Don't know how! But we're grateful we got past it three months early, too!

I guess it does pay to read the fine print. Happy that you all got that second part paid!

Good for you, Lady! But I still think there's something not quite right about their fine print!
