Can someone tell me where to find info for making shawl pins out of copper or nickel wire. I love the pins that I see, but can't bring myself to buy one because I think "I can make that myself". I don't think it would be difficult, I just don't know what tools I would need.

I learned a lot about wire working on about.com forums years ago.

Here's a start with links to more info.

Wig-Jig University site is also a valuable resource that will keep you busy: http://www.wigjig.com/jewelry-tools/

Do any of you do lamp work glass jewelry? My daughter, Ang, that is living with us and was getting her degree in art wants to make wire and glass jewelry. I have ordered a starter kit for her to work with the glass and also ordered a book. She is getting excited and organizing the glass beads that I already have. I know nothing about this art but I want to make sure to have the supplies she will need since this is her Christmas present. I will read the sites that you have given us.

Sarita, here is a site that has supplies, but they also have instruction video! You could also maybe call and see if there is anything else you need to get started! I seem to remember that you need a small kiln or something to cool the beads down in so they don't cool; down to fast and break! http://www.glassmart.com/fw632.asp

Did you ever get a chance to check out what fleece you have!!! Hubby let me order some silk from Grace for Christmas! Yipee! I will have to send you pics of my first wheel spun yarn!!

There is a great craft/glass website ; Deplhi ; just google it. You can anneal small beads in a fiber blanket if you don't have a kiln.I have done lampworking in the past with a small Mapp gas torch without a kiln; its addictive. You might try to find a lampworker in your area to take classes with and to rent studio time to see if she likes it before the bigger investment in more equipment and a kiln which is expensive.
