And if so, how do you like it?

I guess I'm just not up to speed like I was when I was younger, because I had to google a "kindle" just to find out what you were asking about. You taught me something today. Thank you.
BTW, no I don't have one.

Well, if I hadn't seen it on Oprah I wouldn't have known about it either. It look fascinating to me, a book lover. Yesterday I saw a man at the mall, reading one and I asked him about it. He said he bought it in April and hasn't laid it down. He showed me how it worked, - he ordered the new James Patterson book and it was there in less than 10 seconds. And he paid $9.99 for it, list price $27.99. Looks like a lot of fun - could become an obsession for avid readers I think. Of all the new electronic toys available, it's probably the only one I'd be tempted by.

I think they look fabulous! I also really enjoy my audible membership so between those two I would be set!

One of the things that I really like about the idea of the Kindle is that with one piece of equipment- you can have a whole library at your fingertips. It would save a lot of trees!

I am thinking about the Kindle too. At this point in my life, I am really trying to eliminate clutter!! However, I cannot imagine reading a kindle in the bathtub (which is where I do most of my reading). Maybe I will do it this year though. As an English teacher, I am constantly buying books and then passing them on. I would like to spend less to read more! :)

I know!! I thought the Kindle was a cheap little thing, but my daughter said that they are like hundreds of dollars!! Can this be true!? You just know that it would end up in the tub if it costs a lot of money!!

Yeah, I finally got the courage to look! They are 350-400!! Maybe they will come down in price when they have been around another year or so. I would really like to have one though. You know how that goes once you think about something and realize how much you would love to have it!! Lucky for me that Amazon is out of them right now and has a waiting list.

This is my 20 year old's main gift this year - an avid reader as am I. I wasn't sure I would like the idea, since I love books so much, but after seeing the Oprah show where she talked about it, I decided he might like it. Today's paper had an article about how Amazon sold out and they are being resold online for 3 or 4 times what they're worth. I bought this one early on, so had no trouble...

I've been interested in one for a while but I wish I could get my hands on one before spending the money. So much of my enjoyment of reading comes from the feel of the book and paper. The Kindle would have to feel good in my hands. Did Oprah address that at all?

I also heard they were about ready to come out with the second version. Not sure of the price point on that one.

My son who received one for Christmas is loving it. He and his older brother drove to Dallas (from Houston) 2 days ago and he marveled at how on the drive, in the middle of nowhere, he ordered and received a book he wanted, and also got internet reception on it. He and I are great book lovers and we agree we'll never get over actual books, but he thinks the Kindle is just great. Being a college student, he'll try getting some textbooks on it as well.
Oprah did mention that even though she is a book person, she does love this. In fact, my son (20) told me last night, he is still reaching up to the corner to "turn the page" before he remembers to just push the button.

Oh no! More good reviews for the Kindle. I would love to actually hold one too. If avid readers like it though, I can imagine that it would be great once you get used to it.

I got to hold one - the guy I accosted in the mall who was reading one said "Sit right down." and he showed me all how it worked and how it felt in my hands. The reading "page" actually looks just like nice paper - I don't know how they do it - but he says no eye strain. I really want one, but it's probably out of reach on our current budget!

Well, Sherri that sure makes me even more serious about wanting one. Maybe some time this year. My budget is kinda tight these days, so we will have to see.

I'd love to have one personally. I see them becoming a must for school. Right now students are carrying around "tons" of textbooks. Just think! The could carry ALL their texts/novels/papers on one item!!! Maybe teachers could download notes to a web page and students could upload them to their kindles....so cool.

I have a Kindle and i love it! I had been wanting one since they came out last year. Luckily, i happened to have Oprah on the day she told about the Kindle. Hubby was home and ordered me one on the last day of the coupon. (50.00 off) I love it. I can't tell you how much i love it. It took a few days getting used to it. but after that it was a breeze. I bought the little Mighty Bright light and clip that on at night and hubby doesn't even know i'm still awake reading.

I loved when i went to FL for two weeks i could carry all my books with me on my kindle. ;) Its light weight which i love and the books are usually cheaper than "dead tree" books. It just takes a second to order and receive a book. Also i have gotten a lot of free classics off of the internet by dl them to my computer and then loading them onto my kindle.

My son took it on our vacation mid-January. We were on the plane and he showed me the screen - there was a postage stamp size area in the corner that looked like a UPC code. He tried reading around it. Next time he opened it up, the entire screen was covered in it. When we got back from Hawaii, I called Amazon and told them - the lady was very helpful and immediately said they would replace it. She emailed me a UPS mailing label to return the damaged Kindle in the same box the new one came in. No charge, no hassle, and the replacement is doing fine. That was good customer service!
