Has anyone ever had problems with using baking soda and clogging pipes. It seems it can replace deoderant, shampoo, toothpaste, and scouring powder...anything else?
Years ago I did use it as an alternative to scouring powder and all I got after 4 months was a clog in my sink pipes that broke one snake and took a second more industrial one to break up the cement rock it had formed.
So I'm hesitant to use it and wash it down the sink.
Any other farmgirls experience this? Allison

I've not had any problems with it. That's all I use to clean with, even the toilets.
Have you tried flushing it down with vinegar?

I use vinegar and baking soda to clean my drains, flusing with really hot water. Never had a problem. |

Love that idea of baling soda and plain vinegar, and yes it works. Just make sure the baking soda disolves, which is why vinegar as well as running hot water helps.
Also taking a cup of homemade yogurt and flushing it down the toilet also helps if you have a septic tank system, since the active culture in the yogurt eats the bacteria that can clog the system. You can also do the same thing with the compost starter some garden supply stores sell. Simple flush a tablespoon of the stuff down the toilet once a month.
