Sheesh--I hadn't seen this topic for a couple of days and figured she was home recuperating and on her feet! Let's hope this does the trick to get her back to full health. Prayers in progress!

Just got off the phone with the latest update...
Surgery went well. The surgeon found a kink in her small intestine as well as a small ulcerated area. The docs snipped and clipped and stitched everything back together. She is resting as comfortably as can be expected for someone whose been through what she has. At least the anesthesiologist has been checking on her this time (gee I wonder why). So it's back to pain meds and antinausea meds and wait and see. Doesn't sound like she'll be going home til Monday, and probably won't be able to come home to IL for Christmas.

Just thought of this - a farmgirl analogy - she actually had colic like a horse gets colic!

My goodness, what a time she's had. Poor thing. So they think she's been having all these problems because of a blockage in her intestines? I hope this gets her better and out of that hospital soon. That's alot to go through.

It sounds really crazy, but if food or drink can't go down, then there's no place to go but up. That's why she's been so nauseous.

Ann, you're funny and right, colic---has your sister been rollin' in the hay? Don't make her laugh too hard...might be painful but think you should ask her.

Bless her heart, she's a trooper.

News from sister Nancy:
"I just talked to Janice herself and it broke my heart, She sounds like she needs a hug soo bad. I've been in tears since I got off the phone with her. She and I talked for about 5-10 minutes and it took everything out of her. She does sound pretty good though and seemed happy to hear my voice as well. She said the pain isn't too bad today and that she feels the gas still moving around inside of her. She said she's sure they won't let her go until she either has a bowel movement or at least passes gas. She said she still has the tube in as well. She made a joke about feeling very high as well. She said she has the push button pain med thing, so she can get an extra dose of the narcotic as she needs it. She said the pain for the other surgery has pretty much subsided, however last night she had what she described as the worse menstrual cramps ever so she knows that is the area of the previous surgery."

Ann, "gut" surgery is a painful experience, there is just no getting around it. I've just been through 1 1/2 years of this with my mom and it is so painful and hard to watch them experience. My mom is 75 and is doing much better but it's been a heckuva ride. I am just sure that your sister is going to recover nicely but the few days after surgery are really tough...thank goodness for the push button pain reliever. It takes intestines a few days to adjust to being invaded surgically and your sister just had the surgery so it's pretty routine what she is experiencing but I know it's hard when she sounds bad.

Got the BEST birthday present of all yesterday - a phone call from JANICE! She is doing so much better after they fixed her twisted guts. Yesterday, she was up and walking around. She is using less pain meds, and NO NAUSEA!!! She still had the tube in her stomach, but it sounds like they will take that out today. We talked about how, once they can get some food in her, her bowel should start functioning again. Let's hope and see!

That's such good news, Ann. I sure hope it works. She needs a good cup of coffee. It always helps me!

GREAT NEWS!!! Just got an email photo from Janice with the caption of "Look Ma - no tubes"! Yes, they pulled out her stomach tube today as well as the drainage tube the put in one of her original incisions. She was given a clear liquid tray today, and if she can keep everything down tonight, they may add more tomorrow. It looks like she will be returning home on Wednesday, and the doctor seems optimistic about letting her come here for Christmas (of course this is the same doctor who let her go home way too early last week, so I'll take his advice with a grain of salt). AND, if that wasn't good news enough, we had a bowel movement today! I haven't been that excited about poop since I was potty training my kids! This means that things are starting to work the way they should, and that hopefully, the end of this ordeal is in sight.

Thanks for all your prayers - keep'em coming!

Yeah, there's nothing like a good poop to make a person feel better! That sounds disgusting but true. I am so glad it finally happened for your sister. Great news!

Final post - I promise (at least I hope so anyway...)

She made it home for Christmas! She looks very pale, and very fragile, and is very thin, and walks very slowly, but she came home! I'm sure she's back in CA right now sleeping off her travels, but it was so great to just have her home and doing ok.

Thank you all again for your prayers - we know they work! - and your support!
