I just finished "Writing Down the Bones" by Natalie Goldberg and am currently in the middle of "Bird by Bird" by Anne Lamott. I recommend them BOTH very highly, and Bird by Bird is just hilarious. Both books for those who are interested in writing...or those who aren't but would like to be...Enjoy!!!

Bird by Bird is my all-time favorite book on writing! I've also read the Goldberg book and second your recommendation. Two more to add to the list for writers is Stephen King's On Writing (part memoir, part advice for writers...definitely not the Stephen King you know from horror writing - he's super funny and thoughtful here!!) and Georgia Heard's Writing Toward Home - full of useful writing exercises and ideas.

Anne Lamott's other books are wonderful too. Plan B: Further thoughts on Faith is one of my "sanity/touchstone" books

Thanks for the titles. I, too, love to write but often hit the good old writer's block. I hope our library carries them!

I just reread last night's post and realized that I mixed together the titles of about 3 of Anne Lamott's books - they are all worth reading but you won't find them under that title - sorry. That's what I get for posting while sleep deprived

Whoo hoo! "Bird by bird" is on it's way to me, thanks to paperbackswap! (love that site)

Will have to check out the other books too. Oh, YES, Stephen King's "On Writing" is an excellent book - I second that recommendation. I love it.

Ooooh! Let me know what you think about Bird by Bird...it's been my favorite so far. I have underlined probably 1/3 of the book and the whole time I was reading it I would call my bf or my family to read them funny passages.

Writing has been a passion of mine since I was 12! I have taken several writing courses over the years, but they get kind of pricey after awhile and I really don't like having to "Share" my work in class-- though I know it's hard to write a BOOK and not have people read it! (go figure! LOL!!)
I tend to be more of a story TELLER, rather than a story SHOWER (and a little too WINDY!)-- which I really need to remedy. It's pretty bad when you can't stand to read your OWN stories because they bore you to TEARS!!! Though the overall IDEAS are rather good. Time for some polish and DEFINITELY some discipline! Thanks for passing on the info ladies. I will certainly be checking out those titles! Hugs ~~~ Tracy
