How long can you leave a fresh turkey in your fridge before you cook it? If I buy it today, will it be okay for Thanksgiving, or should I wait until tomorrow?

I am buying my turkey today, We are going to put in a brine it tomorrow. It will be in that for 24 hours. As long as it is kept refrigerated and covered at no more than 40 degrees it will be fine until Thursday

i bought a fresh turkey from "earth fare" (grocery store) i picked it up today also. i asked when i ordered it if picking it up on monday (today) to cook on thursday would be okay and they said absolutely! (it was even one of the days to select/or check off the little box on their order form!) so you should be fine. enjoy!! and have a great thanksgiving!!

I just picked up my turkey from Whole Foods today. I forget exactly what kind it is but I know it was the same kind the White House gets. I talked to the Butcher and asked him to recommend one. I didn't want one of the grocery store kinds after reading up on how they are raised and am so glad that we were blessed enough to be able to order an all natural bird from Whole Foods. I will brine mine tomorrow also.
The buthcher told me it will be fine in the refrigerator until Thursday.

I picked mine up today from Fresh Market and it is a fresh, not frozen, turkey. So it would just sit in their cooler anyway, right? I put mine out in my milk fridge and it stays at about 30 in there.

I got the Belle and Evans which is the White House bird. They are very good.

Kristin~That's the turkey we got, too. I couldn't remember the name. It completely slipped my mind when I was posting.

Terri~I wish we could grow more things here. Definitely not enough room.
