Well all the leaves are finally down, so now it is time to rake. I decided long ago that raking every day just wasn't for me. I rake them into the garden area and i compost them in a compost pile out by the barn. I have 4 huge Sycamores (huge leaves), a large Birch (teen,tiny leaves)and a large Japanese Maple (beautiful leaves) at the front of the house. Mostly conifers everywhere else. M Japanese Maples are pretty:
The rest are Sycamore--the Birch is actually hanging on to it tiny leaves.

Oh, my goodness! That's a LOT of leaves! :O Do you compost them? Bag them? How far away are your neighbors? You could always blow them over there. ;) Although, with that many leaves, I'm afraid they might get buried in the leaf pile and be lost forever.

So what are you gonna do with allthose leaves? compost? Looks like a lot of raking MaryBeth. Is there rain inyour forcast?

| Your pics remind me of home! My parent's street has sycamores planted up and down both sides, and they have a japanese maple in their front yard too. (Back yard would be all yellow leaves - norway maple and silver maple). |

My sweet husband bought me a leaf blower. The really neat thing is it has a bag attachment and when it is put on the blower then sucks the leaves up and into the bag, Cutting them into little pieces as they go! The bag holds up to 2 bushels when full and I know it is ready to unzip and empty when I start to stagger! I have mulched all my flower beds, Jerusalem artichokes, blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, etc. etc. etc.

Hey, Bonnie, I have one of those, too! My son gave it to me for Christmas 2 years ago and I love it! I can still work up a sweat "vaccuuming" the yard, but it's so much fun to suck them up. The best part is that the chopped up little pieces of leaves stay put when you mulch your beds because the wind has nothing to "grab".
Marybeth, I don't remember the name on mine. It's out in the shed and it's still dark here. But my son got it at Sears. I call it a leaf sucker/blower but I think it's really called a leaf blower/vac. It works great at getting leaves out from tight spaces like wagon wheels and dry stream beds.

You all are so lucky to have the trees that the leaves fall from...we are slowly planting trees on our property, they are so expensive! I tease my husband that we'll be in our 90's before we get to see them big! Enjoy the shade in the summer, and fall just wouldn't be fall without all those leaves!!! I wish I lived closer....I'd come down and help ya!

Now that it's lunch time, I went out and looked at it. It's a Craftsman Incredi-Pull 32cc gas powered blower/vac.
Lisa, the trees we have here are pretty fast-growing trees like cottonwoods and aspens. I have an ash on the SW corner of the house which is a slow grower but had been planted here in the 40's. Which is really lucky as it shades the house during the hottest part of the day and makes it feel air conditioned in here all summer. I don't know what you planted, but if some are fast growers, it won't take all that long to get to enjoy them. Hang in there!

Mine is a Husqvarna leaf blower with a lightweight zippered bag on the rear of it. Sorry no photo.

| I've been composting leaves, too. Since we moved to New England we've got 7 huge maple trees in the back yard. The good news is, most people have too much kitchen waste to make a good balance in the compost. My problem is having not enough. Also, the wet leaves attract worms, which is always good. I've shoveled a few worms onto the compost in piles of leaves. |
