I have been acquiring wooden sewing spools, and other than putting them in old jars to display, I am looking for ideas for crafting. Any suggestions?

ANGIE, If you look on my site, I have a few of the spool dolls. They are really cute. I didn't make them, but they are hand made. Also if you look at my site there is a basket of stuff, there are spools in there. You can wind real colorful material around them and put them in a basket. then spray a pretty scent on them. You can also string them along with other things to make a garland. Nancy Jo

oh my gosh those ones with the carvings in them are just so beautiful!!!! My great grandfather actually made a corner table out of them. He used dowels to go through the middle of them and cut holes in the wood for the shelves and it had 3 shelves and the wooden spools going in between them. It is kinda hard to explain but it was kinda neat!!! Different

Well! You guys have certainly given me some great ideas! Thank-you so much! I promise I will post pictures when I started creating and decorating! Nancy, that basket filled with all the pretties is lovely, but then you do have a way with creating nice vignettes for us all to enjoy!

LOL! Me too! I found a ceramic one on clearance at Hobby Lobby last year and it was a blast from the past for me, so I dug out the big spools that I had and pounded nails in them. hahaha

One time I saw a simple coat rack made from them. It was a typical L-type shelf, with the spools nailed or doweled into the side of the L that hugs the wall. If you stain them the same color as the wood shelf, that would be cool. Or paint, too!

Ooh, that's a cute idea Ann. I could use it to hang aprons and dolly dresses on in my pink room. (hmmm, gotta find more wall space )

Yup, my mom (or one of my brothers) made me the spool knitters too, when I was an iddybiddy girl. I love to spool-knit, .,lol. Just never knew what to do with the end result, just had a LONG knitted worm in different colors. At least I can't remember what i did with them, hhhmmm, have to think real hard
