And it only took me 26 years to admit it. Though I think I should get at least the first 5 years as freebies. So can we call it 21 years?

You were/are right. It is so much easier to get my chores done if I make the effort to keep the house clean in the first place. You were right. Everything should have a place and it should go back to that place when I am done with it.

Now can you convince Nora of that?!

Sorry Alee, convincing Nora of that will be a life long endeavor. My DD will be 16 in a few weeks and she still does the drop and run method, then can't figure out why she can't find anything. This weekend was my mini war on teenager. While I was out Sunday running errands, shopping, going to Home Depot etc, she was snuggly at home watching movies. So, after I got home and found out she didn't manage to do the 3 little things I asked; and for the rest of the day, I turned her into mom. Laundry, dishes, dinner, cleaing up after cooking (that took 6 tries), feed animals, trash, bathroom.

What was sooo amazing - she complained at ME when I left my lunch dishes on the coffee table because she had just finished cleaning the kitchen - pay back stinks . She was also unhappy that I was laying on the sofa watching movies and not helping. My response - I forgot

Rene- tell me about it. Doug claims he would be homeless if I didn't take care of him.

I wholeheartily agree Rene. My ex thought that one corner of the bedroom was for clean clothes and the other corner for dirty clothes; and as long as there was a path to the bathroom the house was fine.

I have 2 boys (men). They are both cooks but only one cleans up after himself. Both work away from home (construction) and pretty much have to look after themselves. The messy one has an apartment and comes home on weekends so his wife can do his laundry. I would hate to see his apt. He also has a travel trailer for short term jobs. I'v heard from D-I-L that it is trashed when he brings it home. The neat son stays in motels. He only gets home every 6 weeks or so. He cooks the whole time he is home and when he goes to another assignment, D-I-L has a fridge and freezer full of yummy stuff. My daughter is somewhere in the middle. Her husband cooks and the teenage kids do the dishes (dishwasher) and they all do their own laundry.

What it boils down to, I don't think you can teach your kids. Either they have it or they don't.

My son is going to be 27 in december and told me recently that the thing he misses the most about living at home was how the refridgerator use to re stock it self and like majic it had food again it in. I used to work after noon so I stopped on the way home from work and so it was re stock when they got up in the morning. I just thought that was the funniest thing. He also said he missed just sitting around the table after eating and talk and goofing around. that made me feel good too. so they do finally come to the conclusion but it takes a while!!!! hehehehehe

Out of my two children my son is better at putting things back. It seems that my daughter can not clean up after herself at all. Mind you I have tried to get to. You know after thinking about this my husband has this problem. He loves to try and help but then after he does the dishes I have to go and find where he put them and then put them where they belong. Oh well you have to love them.
