well, the Jensen family celebrated Thanksgiving with an early Christmas surprise...a christmas tree...IT FELL THRU OUR ROOF!!!!!
A lovely 70 foot fir tree crashed thru our roof at 10 pm tonight, due to the drenching rain we have had I am sure.We have holes in our ceilings inside in two places, the window frame is smashed, goodness knows what daylight will bring. And as you all know, hubby just had his neck surgery...the fun just never ends around here.Thank the Lord it missed our bedroom (barely),the power pole and the wood stove stack.

Well, guess we won't need to put up a tree in THAT ROOM this year!!

so sorry to hear of your woes. there was a huge beautiful tree behind our cabins .. close to the house .. (before we moved here .. but i saw glorious photos of it) .. the previous owners told me that because a huge limb fell onto one of the historic olde cabins (no damage .. thank goodness) .. they hated to .. but had to .. cut that lovely olde tree to the ground. (and it was SUCH a graet 'swing-hanging tree too!) now we don't have any large trees immediately surrounding the cabins. i love the look of big trees close to a home .. but ahhhhh .. the trials and tribulations .. such as yours. i sure hope you have some good insurance to help fix your home up again. (we had friends in maryland .. and a GIGANTIC tree also fell through their roof .. demolishing 1/3 of their home! and ya' know .. it is soooooooooooo beautiful today with all the 'fixing' up they did. good thoughts for a speedy recovery for both your honey and your home!

xo, frannie

Oh Diane Im so sorry. I do understand the stress of everything your going through. You are right, it's a blessing it didnt crash on top of anyone. Has is your husband doing? I hope you have someone who can help you. Our neighbor has a huge tree in their yard & when the wind blows, you see it just bending over my little mobile home. Good luck with everything. Michele

Wooooooooo Dianne, must have scared the life out of you!! Liked your sense of humor, re: "no tree needed for that room." I am sure that humor will get you thru this. Thinking of you and prayers coming your way.

Dianne - I am so sorry you have so many things to deal with right now. It always seems to happen that troubling and stressful times come in groups!
I am thinking of you and sending prayers. I guess those of us in hurricane territory are not the only ones that have trees come through the roof!

Keep strong, and we all wish we could mend everything, but we will pray for you! Hopefully that will help you feel some support.

Thanks for all your replies, Girls. Called all the fellows we knew and enough showed up to take care of the tree part. My future son in law, the movie stunt man, showed his stuff yesterday and did all the hard dangerous parts..he is a treasure, and what a hard worker. Now we just have to wait for the Insurance guy and go from there. What a relief to at least have it off the house!

Hubby stood around and felt guilty, which is so funny as he is ALWAYS the first one to help anybody in trouble- as I reminded him many times. He is doing really well, thanks be to god and prayers.

My goodness! Were you scared? I would have. I do hope you don't have serious structural damage, windows can be replaced fairly easy other things maybe not so easy. Keep us posted on developments.

It WAS pretty scary...well, for me at least. When the noise started at first, we both instantly thought it was an earthquake..for those who have never been thru a good one, you get a low rumble sound in the begining (us here in the Pacific Rim are used to them..well, as used to them as one can get anyway) Anyway, then when the house didn't move I thought it was a drunk driver careening down our driveway and into the house (we are downhill at end of dirt road)and then finally with the BOOM!! and the ceiling blowing apart my husband VERY calmly says "Well, a tree just fell on the house" (heis just so used to emergencies from his job as a Sheriff and on the Search and Rescue squad i suppose).

Oh my goodness! And what an awful time of year for that to happen too (is there any good time?). You must be FREEZING!

Your hubby's calmness is a wonderful thing. I'm sure that's the stuff for stories - a tree falls on the house and he's deadpan about it!
