I have an embroidered sign at work, The rat race is over, the rats won!
That pretty much describes many a day at work

Here things are going ok. We are back to normal temps of 30's and low 40's but the snow Grace is getting is going south of us. Was supposed to hit us today but... just fine with me. Things are drying up some and we have things to get going on. Need to do some more clearing, make fencing areas larger for chickens and sheep and decide on the cattle thing. We are getting just when, who from and etc.. we have some plans just need to fine tune them. Also need to shovel out the house and bit here!

Sallie is quite verbal when she sees up and now Nellie has joined in. She never said a word and now they are back and forth reminding us they are there whenever we are outside!! What characters. Basil is really growing. Debating on investing in a couple more if we could from the guy who my grandson got these from.

Well better get some coffee down me to get the motor rolling here! Happy weekend to all.

Grace, how exciting on your first grand baby. I too shall be a grandma of a fine baby boy in July but I have not yet begun the sewing for him. My DIL has a very large family and they are buying up the baby stores so I will wait and see if there are any holes in the layette that I can fill besides making a special blanket for him. I do need to locate a portable crib/playpen for our house yet as I believe I get to do some babysitting once a week which I am looking forward to. This is definitely the fun stuff of life! Your grandchild is going to be outfitted beautifully! I have a niece in Colorado and she is ready for the snow to leave. First day of spring should show us at least a sign of it, don't you think?

Your carding mix sounds really interesting. I love Tencel in fabric although don't see it much anymore. Now you see spandex and lycra more but remember when Tencel was put into denim jeans and they were so comfy and smooth feeling? The early 90's I think.

Rae, you've got a nice big place there to keep you busy. Farm work is never done.

I thought we'd wake up to new lambs this morning but nothing so far. So many girls have real big bags and look ready. We will probably have a big day here soon where a bunch lamb all at once. We'll have jugs in the aisles and out next to fences all in a scurry. Murphy's sheep law.

Well, I have a new purse design I'm finishing today in commemoration of our first spring lambs. I spent yesterday in my studio working on it and need to get it listed today. Also been needle felting some and knitting up a scarf sample for a craft fair I'm doing later on. But first...gotta dig up and transplant a couple of bushes that grew larger than I anticipated last summer. Right time to do it while they have no leaves on them and I can see what I'm doing.

Keep on keepin' on girls...

Grace, thanks for sending the snow my way. (NOT) We sheared yesterday and I wore a sweatshirt and the temp was 65 and by 4 pm the temp dropped to 33. Making the trips to the barn in the blowing snow was no fun. It has stopped for now but they are talking like round 2 will hit us again this afternoon. The girls are settled down in the barn in the straw.
I have all these bags of wool and can't keep my hands out of it. I have about 4 fleeces from last year that I had washed and never got sent to the processor that I need to get out of my way so I think I will take pictures and list on Ebay today or tomorrow.
Baking bread, making soup, and spice cake so I better get back in the kitchen...when the weather is like it is today, makes me want to smell good things cooking in the kitchen.

The snow stopped dropping sideways by afternoon chores - Have drifts to my hips so today with our warmer weather I should have mud up to my you know what!!

Finished the carding of my blend and it really turned out nice - tencel is still a fiber that you will find in many blends - gives sheen and strength for those long draws and also helps if you are making a garment that will get lots of wear...

I had dye pots going with bamboo last night - did about seven color batches for some blends I have in my brain. No wonder things get so strange around here - way too many things packed into this pea size brain.

With the warm weather today the kids will be out playing and I hope to get some pictures. Camera has been acting up but it is going on 13 years now - heck we all are entitled to act up.

Still having to hold Esmerelda every three hours for the kids to nurse - they refuse to take a bottle and I will not tube them for this so her and I battle it out every three hours to get those sweet one's their food. She is on my last nerve. The kids are doing great so that is all that matters to me - besides she just is not getting it that I can be the biggest witch with a B - so she just is not going to win at this, besides I still owe her for my cracked ribs from last winter...

Hope everyone has a great Sunday. Congrat's on the new grand child - as if we had anything to do with it?? I think this is all the sewing I will be doing for sometime because they have a ton now so back to work for me. Who knows maybe I could sew something for me - I have not done that for a long time.

Let us know where you post the fleeces - love to take a look - you know I don't have an ounce of fleece I hope to post some Icelandic Chocolate Brown today on my Etsy - that is if the camera is working. Bye for now and stay dry today.

It was seventy degrees here on Friday and b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l outside. The weather forcasters were predicting all this snow, and since we have a weird assortment of weather in Arkansas, pretty much everyone blew them off. Well, it set in to snowing Saturday night about 10:30 and it hasn't stopped yet! We have about 5 inches on the ground! We have so much that it weighted some of the electric lines down in town, and power went off at church for a while and Wal-Mart has been closed because of being in the dark!
Tomorrow we are going to pick up another miniature donkey. The little female we got a couple of weeks ago seems very lonely, so we found her a mate. Between that and the snow, the kids are beside themselves they are so excited. Since hubby and I are on Spring Break from our jobs at school, we plan to shear our new little flock of sheep this week, too. I can't wait to have more fiber than I know what to do with! I got almost 3 pounds of coopworth fiber last week from a lady on the internet, and boy, it is sooo soft. I washed about 4 oz and carded it yesterday - I can't wait to spin it. Mom and I have decided to do a fiber show in Tulsa in May - our first - so we are kicking it into high gear. Lots of fiber to dye an spin, but I am not complaining!

How exciting Lori - what is going to be the sweet one's name?? What do you use them for other then hugging and kissing on??

You will love doing shows - it was my world for about 15 years but I must say I am glad I am not packing trailers, loading equipment, long hauls on the road but I do miss seeing some of my long time customers all over the U.S. I know what you mean show season means no sleep for the fiber folks.. Good luck on the shearing my back will be with you. I plucked a few of the cashmere who blew out early but the big shearing with the boys and young girls are still ahead of me. Let us know how it all goes.

Monica, I finally got a picture of Monica - she is very fast and I will get it up on the blog by tomorrow. I also got a couple of pictures of the babies - not the best but if they would only hold still. I finally had to stop because the battery died again. It is a chargeable one and when you are in the bright day light it seems to run out quickly. When funds permit a new camera is on the list, right after the hay bill, propane bill, electric bill and so on..

Just finished carding some of my alpaca boys - wonderful soft and tons of it - so back to work for me just stopped in for a quick read.

The wind has settled down here and the temp got up to about 40 this afternoon and the snow melted. Yesterday with the snow blowing and that cold wind, the girls decided to have their babies. One of the ewes had twin girls, One is large and nice and the last little ewe is so tiny, about 1/2 size of her sister and of course Mom likes the big one best. I am supplimenting mom's milk for the tiny girl. I put some pictures on my blog of some of the new babies.
Monica, I just put on some of my wool on ebay. I am out of practice. I washed 2 of the new fleeces yesterday and Friday afternoon. I sat and spun on some of Dottie's fleece last night and it was so easy to spin. Lovely... I opened up some of my boxes of wool from last Spring and took pictures for ebay but after 2 listings,I went back to the barn.
Last night during the blowing snow and the cold, Dewberry, my cow, had her calf. At least all went well, this was her first baby so I was very watchful.
It has been so busy since I came home from school on Thursday at noon. Shearing, lambing, calving, washing wool, cooking, and spinning.
Girls, I am ready to work the ground and plant some garden. It is Spring now.
I need to get to bed so I can get up at for barn checks in the night.

Sarita they are so cute, lambs. Basil was around the size of the little ones but of course he was one out of 4, only that survived

They are still figuring things out at our school. I know somethings are going to change position wise so will see. I am pretty safe as I have seniority with para's in EBD and actually and #2 for the whole lot.

We need to shear here, first time ourselves but have to wait at least until next month, can get pretty cold here yet.

Glad you like my little blog Cindy and welcome to this forum - love having you.

Monica isn't Monica the sweetest?? I tell you I will need to construct a duck blind if I hope to get pictures. They are as camera shy as I am but they run a lot faster then I do...

I have a few more pictures to get on the blog today - dial up is really slow these past few days and I also have products to list. Had something interesting to write about last night but you will have to wait till I put it on the blog - What a tease I am..

I just realized since we did not have all the babies that was planned I have not had a naming contest. I only have one boy who does not have a name so I guess I will also put a contest up today or this evening. So watch out ladies prizes are going to be offered.

Have a great day - our storm is creeping in and the temp is dropping.

Good morning all. I loved seeing the pics on your blog, Grace and Sarita. Sorry to hear your weather is still so bad - I do sympathize after what we had two years running. Still fighting with the dealerships over my van so I haven't had much time to get on and read everyones posts. I need to get this van issue finally settled so I can arrange for my shearing and get on with stuff. What a lot of stress. I am going on my third week without a vehicle. It seems that there was a recall on my transmission that everyone is playing "ignorant" of and now because of the age of my van are trying to get out of. Welcome to the world of the large corporation. Keep me in your prayers as I don't have a spare $4,000 laying around anywhere....

Have a great day everyone.

Blessings, Sheri

Oh Sheri I am so so sorry to hear that you are still fighting to get your van whole again. The way companies treat folks anymore it is no wonder they are going under but then we are to help them - bulls**t!!

I will keep you in those prayers but you gals have never left them - I know we all need good words sent out there for us so I figure we just keep on keeping on with good thoughts, prayers and a bunch of luck. Take care of yourself because all this stuff is not good for us - any of us....

Grace, Monica is just the cutest! I wish I could come and give her a hug! I hope you don't get too bad of a storm! It was really nice here yesterday, but today it is cold and very windy! Our weather keeps jumping back and forth between warm and cold! I think you ought to name the new little boy Isaiah!!

The sky is getting gray and the cold is setting in - better get ready for a bumpy ride.

As for the name of the little boy I am looking for a something to go with Miss Marple - I have a Sherlock and Watson - but I must admit I am stumped for someone to go with Miss Marple. I kept coming up with Montique but Maggie already has a boy named Monty. I am thinking of renting a couple of her movies (Just had a couple of them in the house about a month ago) to see if there is any good "M" name in there. I hate when I box myself into this but I try to keep the names with the first letter alike that way I can remember who is who's.. Besides Monica we have one goat named for you and one named for Olivia - people will begin to talk that the contests are fixed.

Grace, You are too funny! I hope you stay warm and that the storm is light!

Sheri, I will be praying that all works out with your van! Whatever you do, do not back down if it is part of a recall! Tell them that if they do not promptly take care of it you will be contacting the BBB, attorney general, the local news and anyone else you can think of! There is so little work ethic in this country anymore is sickening!

Maybe Mr. McGoo would go with Miss Marple

Grace you sure have had the weather, wow!!! Would think you live in MN! We have had some nice weather and just kind of waiting for that last blast to hit.

Everyone sounds like they are really getting busy. I know we will be, next week we both are taking the whole week off to do work around here other than Monday. If #7 grandchild (a girl) isn't here by then our daughter will be induced that day so will be waiting her arrival. I will get to be in the delivery room!!
Take care all and prayers are always with my farm girl family!

It is STILL SNOWING - drifts up to my waist and the rest to my knees- OH Springtime in Colorado!!!

So after snowing shoeing to all the barns and digging my way in I finished the chores, peeled off my wet clothes and fired up the oven. I have a pumpkin pie going and blueberry/orange muffins. The pea soups is bubbling for lunch and I am on my thrid cup of hot tea. Not much I can do about the weather so I just get busy.

Hope all goes well with the delivery - spoke to my daughter in law last night she is getting nervous - she wants the little one out and I said it is much easier when they stay put - besides in this weather no need or wants to get out on the roads.

Back to baking but I sure hope everyone stays warm and safe - the funny farm is not going anywhere...

Good Morning everyone. Congrats Rae on the impending arrival - I will put her in my prayers for a safe delivery.

The plot thickens with my van issue - I feel like I woke up in the twilight zone. It turns out that the dealership that sold the van (to my boyfriend/partner at the time) as a Christmas gift to me, sold him a van that was imported from Canada. The recall was in 2004 and I just found out yesterday that the corporate office in Canada thought my van was sitting on a lot in Calgary. In the meantime, Canada won't honor the recall says I have to deal with US corporate. US corporate can't even find my vin# in the system in Canada. I have been batted back and forth now for several days. To sweeten the deal - I can't even buy a new transmission because the corporation doesn't sell them to the dealers unless it's for a warranty issue. For a recall issue they will put in a certified rebuilt. But...in my case they won't even sell me one of those because they are saying too bad it's on my dime. Soooo - I can only buy an aftermarket tranny that had how many thousands of miles on it before it was rebuilt. Great huh? What a nightmare. I am not posting the brand of van nor the dealership because I don't want it to come back to bite me later as comments sometime do. I will be honest, I am so tired and stressed I could just scream. Who ever heard of a car company not selling new replacement parts for their vehicles?

I hope everyone elses week is going smoother than mine. How's the house issue going, Monica? Are you drowning in mud, Grace?

Blessings, Sheri

Oh Sheri if I where you I would be screaming and then some. I feel so horrible for you - I must say I would be saying just about every 4 letter words there is and then some - I know it will not fix the problem but sometimes you just have to let it fly so you do not stroke out!!! There seems to be no honor in business anymore... I will put you in my thoughts after I say some of those 4 letter words for you...

I just heard that we are to reach 50 to 60 by the weekend which means all this snow will have no where to go but MUD or should I say just standing water.. I had hoped to get hay brought in but before this storm I was trying to get the driveway to dry out some but this will make it impossible. The ground was so soggy that you could not even get a vehicle off the drive without getting stuck not even to mention something carrying tons of hay - someday's I wonder if I am NUTS - I could just sit and spin on top of a mountain and not hassle with all this....

Oh Well, back to the muffins - the pie is done and I am getting hungry for lunch. Still snowing - so nothing else to do but eat and get something done around this messy house. Stopping back later.
