Welcome to MJ’s Heirloom Mavens!
As of 6:36pm, October 16, we are at 102 pages, 1516 posts. Go crazy, mavens, go crazy – like anyone has to tell us that! This newsletter and the next will still be covering topics from the first month. After that….well, we’ll see. We’ve covered a lot of ground in that first month. For Mother Hen’s Musings I thought it would be interesting to include some clips from Mama Dawn’s first posts. See if you can pick out a common theme. Friendship Gardens
Some of us are probably still putting our gardens to bed but it’s never to early to think about next year. How about adding a Friendship Garden to your plans?
“Since you all mean so much to me, I want to plant a "friendship garden". Each of you will tell me what you love (flower or herb wise) and I will plant it in my garden. Neat dontcha think?” Dawn (Pg 52 of DOE thread)
“I want to do the friendship garden when I get moved to Idaho, why don't everyone trade their fav flower/herb that way you actually have the flower from the person. Most people have their fav planted in their garden already. Just a thought. I will send you in the spring a start of an OLD lilac that I love, I also love iris. and ........hollyhocks you know, all those sweet old timey flowers, lily of the valley, violets, oh I could go on and on,hehehe” Teresa Sue (Pg 52 of DOE thread)
Sisterhood of the Traveling Patchwork Pillow
“Wouldn't it be nice to make up a package of MJ's Heirloom Maven things...patch, bumpersticker, some seeds maybe and anything else we think up along the way ...our favorite nail polish heehee, and be able to give it to MaryJane at BBB?” With this post, Annika set in motion plans to present our MaryJane with a basket of goodies from the mavens. One of the special items to be included is a patchwork pillow with a 3X3-inch square created by each of the mavens. Heirloom Minor at Farmgirl U
Rene (prosserfarmgirl) is currently working on developing a program for those who would like to minor in heirloom gardening at the Farmgirl University. Be watching for more information in the henhouse.
Seed-swapping
As we put our gardens to bed and begin planning for next season, visions of new seeds to plant for next year dance in our heads. The MJ Heirloom Mavens are a new chapter that formed with the goal to help save the heirloom seed varieties that are dying out! I believe the main thread is over in Keeping In Touch called "Danger of Extinction" and we have a henhouse. You should check it out! Lots of great discussion!

Jeannie: I hope you found our little nest interesting. Right now we are 14 mavens strong and all commmited to growing heirloom foods. Its a daunting task, but we have quite the group! Please dont hesitate to ask ANYONE a question if you need to. The Danger of Extinction thread has pretty much evolved into a maven chat session, but the henhouse is burstingw with sooooo much info. HAve fun with it!
