It was such a nice day today..and the kids have a school holiday today and tomorrow for the whole state (UEA...a teacher's convention..but it is funny it falls on opening weekend of deer hunting season every year..haha) so they were home too.
We got started about noon..when it had warmed up really nice outside and did garden cleanup, got Pearl sheared (my angora goat) and alot of yard work to get ready for winter done, worked on cleanup in my little milk barn to get ready for milking soon, put fresh bedding down for Mona in her "house", and got posts set for a couple fences and gates I wanted up before winter (finally put my foot down after two years of improvising) We even had extra help...Travis had a couple friends call to see if they could come over and play and I said...sure...if you give me 2 hours of yardwork you can all three go play and be done for the day...and they got ALOT accomplished (they are farmkids from a big family and good workers) 3 12 year old boys can sure do alot more than one whining 12 year old boy (TRavis isn't fond of yard work..but didn't complain once in front of his friends!! All my kids pitched in and we got alot done. TWo more days to get even more done..we have big list.
After outside chores for me (husband did some wiring and stuff out in the garage) I worked for an hour in the cellar..organizing, taking inventory and putting things away that I had canned. I will be canning more tomatoes tonight..they are all washed and ready to go..and the jars are in the dishwasher right now. I decided to be done canning salsa for the year. I have enough jars done already this year to have a pint jar each week for a year (55 jars done so far) ..so I think we are good. We do eat alot of salsa..but I think that will be enough. YOu can never have too many canned plain tomatoes though...very handy. I want to can up more meatballs and chicken too...but the tomatoes are first in line. I have a 37# box of apples waiting to be applesauce right after that...the meat is frozen and can wait. I love canning this time of year...the heat in the kitchen feels good.
It got up to about 65 today..just perfect weather to be outside shearing, doing yardwork and fence building...I hope it is just as nice tomorrow and SAturday!! I am going to sleep good tonight!

Oh what a wonderful day you had. Nothing like a little help around the yard, yes I think kids always do better when their friends are there to help...I'm so impressed with all your canning. I did nothing but make three batches of raspberry jam from my own raspberries. My arthritis informed me that I wasn't ready to can anything that was bigger than a jam jar I do remember canning tomatoes years ago and feeling so wonderful to have all those beautiful jars oined up in the pantry.
Mona is such a pretty cow, it must be a treat expecting a baby any moment.
The sun is out here today, and I feel somewhat close to human so I better get off this device and go greet the day....

Jenny, ahhhh, the feeling of accomplishment! It does set well in the evening doesn't it? Just stand back and take pride in a day well spent. I bet you did sleep well! You had a big to-do list! I had to laugh about setting posts and improvising...it's a constant state of affairs around here and I know the feeling.

Today was good too...finished shearing (did both my ewes today) and canned up the rest of the tomatoes..only 9 quarts..but that is done! Tomorrow can be a little less easier. I plan to trim up and winterize the little herb garden and do some fun outdoor stuff. I love weeks like this!
