| My Knitting Daily newsletter informs me it's national Spinning & Weaving week. Anyone doing any interesting projects in that arena? I am working on refurbishing a spinning wheel that a friend gave to me that had been damaged by a chewing dog. Would love to hear what other spinners, weavers and or knitters are up to. |

I'm actually shopping for a spinning wheel. I just became interested in spinning after seeing the local Guild do their stuff at a Quilt, Rug and Craft Fair. I'm very excited to get started.
As for knitting, I am working on a pink cable scarf for my niece for Christmas. I hope I can also make her a matching hat or mittens, but I doubt I will have enough yarn for both.

Hey Ya'll!
I'm spinning at the local farmer's market on Sat. I'll teach kids to spin cotton with cotton balls and Q-Tips and just sit and spin! I've got some Jacob's fleece that needs cleaning before I start on it. I can't decide whether to card it altogether or card it into different colors and ply it multi. Ideas? I've never played with jacob's fleece before.
I'm knitting a cashmere scarf for Christmas and there are socks in my purse to finish. I finished a lace shawl for my mother in Sept. and am just burned out with complicated knitting right now!

where do you get the knitting daily newsletter?
i also have an ashford spinning wheel that is a victim of a chewing dog. how are you going about refurbishing it?

The Knitting Daily website is: www.knittingdaily.com - it is a newsletter that comes out five days a week that will be e-mailed to you if you sign up. There is also free knitting patterns. It is put out there by Interweave Knitting.
My spinning wheel was so damaged that I had to replace the whole "Mother of All" part as the dog had chewed up the uprights that held the bobbins plus the foot pedal which I had to re-fabricate. Then I stripped and sanded the original parts and then stained it and now my significant other is spraying it with lacquer for me. Not an easy process I must add here as there are the bobbins for the new "Mother" to be sprayed etc. It was a very old Ashford so I am sure it will benefit greatly with the new parts. The orginal Mother had leather pieces on the support uprights. I have another Ashford that I am spinning with right now. I am spinning Merino top - trying to work on getting my singles very thin so I can ply into sock weight yarn.
I am knitting socks with a lace pattern in the cuff and top of the foot and a baby sweater that has a hood and will zip down the back - I am switching back and forth between the two.

Oh I just love to hear about spinning. I do knit but I have just come across spinning. I went to a wool festival just 2 weekends ago and boy did I get the bug. I found a spinning guild in our area and I would like to go to that too.. I am trying to learn all I can about it all. Kudos to all of you who already do. Beverley

| Hi Beverley - I hope you do pursue the spinning bug. You might start with a drop spindle to begin with as there is very little investment at the outset. I find that spinning - especially once you get past the start-stop stage is very relaxing - like meditation. It really helps me to gather my focus and center my energy when I am feeling anxious or stressed. The whole key to spinning on a wheel is proper balance between the twist, tensions, etc. Isn't that what we are all striving for in our lives - more balance? It's no wonder it is such a soothing activity. |

Beverly, I will warn you, spinning is very addictive! I got a good deal on some drop spindles and figured I would keep a couple and sell the rest! I ended up giving one away and I have wool or silk on the other 5 and I bought materials to make more! I am hoping to get a wheel soon! It is so very relaxing!
I am knitting a pair of hand warmers for an order!
Dana, that is so cool to show kids how to spin! Have fun! There are some cotton fields close to where I live and I am hoping to glean some cotton after they harvest it!
