Hi everyone! :)
I am Mary, 32 years old, freshly married to Mark as of 6/21/08, and trying desperately to tie up loose ends from the working world so that when Mark and I have children, I can stay at home.
I am so glad to have found this community, it is my only link to a simpler life so far. My family and friends are all "shatter the glass ceiling" women, and I admit I am also part of that culture. My heart is not as in it anymore. I intend to finish out my contract (up 9/09) and then try my hand at getting off the merry-go-round.
Any tips for keeping my sanity at work while I long for the open fields of a farm? :)

Welcome Mary! Your goal sounds wonderful. In the meantime, visiting this forum and trying new/old skills while waiting should keep you less restless at work. Do you have to bring work home with you, or can you just walk away when the day is over? Best wishes in all of your endeavors. So nice to meet you. Linda |

Hi Mary! Welcome.
I'm pretty new to this forum but am really enjoying it so far. I think you'll find this is a great way to dream about the farm life you don't quite have yet. As Mary Jane says.... Farmgirl is a condition of the heart. I definitely believe that and I think everyone else on this forum does too.
By the way, I live in West Chester, so we're practically neighbors! I'm 35 and a stay-at-home mom to twin girls (they're almost two). Most of the time I love being at home with my kids, but honestly, it's an intense, 24-7 world that on some particularly crazy days makes me long for the past when I just got up and went to work - ha ha!
Anyway, welcome again and enjoy the forum. There are so many inspiring women doing interesting, creative, and just plain fun things - you'll have a blast.

Hello, Mary. Welcome to the farm forum.
I do hope you will get through this next year ok and in one piece!
I don't have a "real" job, but working here on my little mini farm is about all I can do. Lots of work here to keep a person really busy.
You can't dream too big, you know.

A warm welcome from Billings Montana.
I stayed home with my children. It was worth it.

Welcome, Mary! Congratulations on your marriage. You will love it here!
I stay home with my 5 (soon to be six) kids and love it. Yours is a wonderful goal. In the meantime, like Linda said, use some of your down time to plan, research, and learn about your future goal. Pick up some fun farmgirl hobbies, like quilting or crocheting!
Looking forward to getting to know you better!

Thank you all so much for your warm welcomes! I am so thankful to have found this forum, and other famrgirls! I'm telling you, as the daughter of a cotton farmer, that I think my problems started when I moved off the farm and into the big city - I was living and working in New York City for about a decade before I married.
I'm coming back around to the way my parents reared me - thank goodness for strong roots! I have so much more to say, but I have to be in early at work tomorrow - I have to leave home in about 6 hours! :( I suppose I can just pretend that I am waking up with the roosters! ;)

Hi Mary from a fellow Pennsylvanian! Glad you joined the forum...I'm fairly new myself and I have learned tons from our fellow farm gals. I am 27 and married 4.5 years. We now have 3 children, 5 goats, 2 fish, 2 hamsters and a cat. SO even though you are still working and getting ready for your family...enjoy this time while you can!!! Wishing you all the best!! |

Welcome Mary, I'm sure you will find plenty of peace and tranquility here! Glad you joined us. I gave up a very good job to be a stay at home mom these past five years. I love being home, but the economy is forcing me back to work. Good luck on your future plans!

I am so overwhelmed by the warm welcomes! I thank you all! :) Life has been busy, and I haven't been able to be as active here as I would like. But I am learning. Learning to carve out time for things that nourish me. And I will be bringing my smiling face around here more often!
