...because I'm desperately seeking a home for this sweet gelding!

Joe has a week left with me, then it's back to the wild horse corrals. Someone has to adopt this guy! He's super sweet, wants to be a buddy and is just an all around nice guy. Anyone in the northwest want to save him from almost certain doom? His adoption fee is $125 and goes to the BLM wild horse and burro adoption program.

Joe was part of an emergency gather done last year after the forest fires in Harney County, OR. He's 2 and has been with me since July. He no longer needs the extra requirements that other, fresh from the wild horses need.

Please...I'm desperate! Adopt poor Joe!

Awwww Joe is a beautiful horse. If I didn't live so far away and also live in the burbs, I'd take him in a heartbeat!

I hope Joe finds a loving home very soon.

My heart is breaking for both Joe and myself! There's no way I could get to him in time! Obviously I am too far away, but if I worked on it I could possibly find a home here. So Sorry!
I am replying to bump this up! Someone here or over there can find a home for him!

Sherry...he can be shipped!

Seriously...he loads into a trailer now. He's just been hanging out watching the other horses and learning that life in the barnyard isn't all too bad.

He had an adopter when he first came. The application was filled out and approved. He paid the adoption fee...and then never took him Joe stayed with me for a month to get socialized, and when I called the guy, I didn't get an answer. When I finally reached him he told me he'd decided he couldn't afford board. Which in the long run is probably best for Joe that he didn't go, but if I'd known I'd have been able to take him to the adoption fair. So now he stands here in the rain...waiting for someone to love...sniff

tracey,

Can I have your permission to use the second photo of Joe for a painting and then tell his story? I would be glad to make links back to you and your horses in my web site and blogs. I love the expression on his face and the lighting in that photo. maybe I can, in some small way, draw some attention to your plight? (no pun intended!)

If you need to you can e-mail me privately.

Thanks!

Oh, please do, Sue! So many mustangs...so few adopters. The really hard part here is that because of his color (bay) he's less likely to be noticed in a corral full of horses where the odds go up that he ends up at a long term holding facility. And those horses face an uncertain future right now

Thank you Tracey. I look forward to painting him and helping promote your cause. I appreciate the information too about how something as random as his coloring (which is what attracted me to him in the photo) actually works against him right now. blending into the herd was likely a benefit in his 'wild' life but now is to his detrement.
Poor boy.

I will let you know how things progress with the painting.

Cross your fingers and say a prayer! Someone is coming to look at Joe this afternoon. Her mom adopted a mustang through me earlier this year, so she knows what she's getting in to and she's excited (or at least sounds that way on the phone) about being able to get him started under saddle and possibly showing next year!

Oh yay! I've been sitting here just staring at his pictures (checked out your blog, too!) trying to figure out how I could "sneak" him in under the hubby's radar. (He'd kill me ;)

I ended up with two people coming to look at him today. The first gal was surprised at how calm and relaxed he was. She said she'd call in a couple of hours, she just wanted to go home and think about it but she really liked him. She took the application along with her.

Later was the woman I'd been expecting. She, too, took the application, and as she was driving away she was telling her hubby all he needed to do. She said she'd fax the application in to the BLM to speed up the process. We'll see.

Then tonight I got an email from someone who's been looking for a horse. I'd emailed her (she worked with my neighbor) a couple of days ago but hadn't heard back. She said it'd gone into her spam mail so she'd just found it, but she wanted the horse and wondered when he could come live with her. I told her if he wasn't gone in 48 hours, he was hers.

So hopefully one of these women will end up with Joe!

Thanks for your prayers!

Oh he is just beautiful. I hope he gets one of these homes. I wish we weren't broke from buying this farm and could just have him shipped to us in PA.

Hi Tracey, what a great thing you do!!! I just read through what has happened so far and I hope one of the people interested comes through for you! We have 2 mustangs (one was my first horse...older now but still has that wonderful mustang spirit!) If we didn't have 5 other horses along with the 2 mustangs I'd try to sneak him in here too but my husbands radar is pretty good when it comes to watching me taking in new "barn-guests" on the farm!

I'll keep watching, I have acouple friends I can check with also...I wish I would have read this sooner!

Here's the Joe update:

Neither of the two people ended up with him who came to see him that day. However, I'd sent an email a few days earlier which had ended up in the spam box of a former co-worker of my neighbor. She found it while cleaning out the spam box, but at that point I thought I had an adopter for him so when she responded I told her to fill out the application, but that it wasn't likely.

Now, everyone else I've said this to has just ignored me, but she filled it out and I sent it in...and it was approved. But neither of the other two, who'd both told me the wanted him, filled out there applications! So I emailed the other woman back and we met and she signed the care agreement and paid the fee without even seeing the horse!

They're out of town this weekend, so I'll be delivering Joe sometime this week when it works out. She hadn't even told her husband, lol, so no doubt she broke that to him over dinner Saturday night. I told her a crowded restaurant was best for that sort of thing...not that I have any personal experience with it...

Glad Joe is going to have a good home! I would have taken him in a heartbeat but there was no getting him past my hubby!!!! After this weekend horse camping with the kids (long story) we've decided we have to downsize here on our farm...going to be some rough days ahead. So happy for Joe though!!!!!
