I have a stockpile of bar soap, mostly from hotels. I tried soaking a bar in water for a day, thinking it would disolve, but no luck. What is the best and easiest way to turn these into liquid soap?

I have it coming out of my ears now . . . I had a ton of sample soaps from a gift bag give away I did with other shops when I had my shop last year . . . anyway, I got my "recipe" from a book called "Homemade" by Readers Digest (I got this book at Costco). Anyway, this is the recipe: 2 cups soap flakes or grated bar soap, 1/2 gallon water, 2 Tblspoons glycerin. You simply combine all ingredients in a pan and cook it over low heat until it the flakes are dissolved! So simple! I did a ton of it and have about 12 quart jars full of it! LOL! Works great. You can add essential oils, but mine had a nice clean scent so I left it alone.

Hugs & blessings,

Brenda

That does sound easy. How long can I store it in screw top plastic container?

I bought a bottle of glycerin at my local pharmacy but it was EXPENSIVE. Visited a soap making/candle making store in Seattle one day and theirs was half the price although still not super cheap. The pharmacy bottle was $21.00 for a 16 oz bottle if I remember right.

Thanks for that info. I guess I will just have to keep my eyes open and look for it and see what the prices are. Thanks again Beverley

I bought an 8 ounce bottle of glycerin at Walmart . . . I think it was about $5.00. It is usually by where the skin anticeptics, etc. are found.

How about putting the soap bars in a food procesor. To chop them up first.
