Hi, there, Teresa Sue, I would be interested in any info on this also. I just went organic about 3 months ago and it is hard to depend on 'grocery stores' for organic food. Fresh Abundance is great but fruit is expensive usually. Karen

I know organic is expensive. My thought on it is this tho-you are going to pay one way or another. You will pay the price of organic food, or you will pay the price through your health, eating non-organic,and you will pay the price with the destruction of our environment with the connection of non-organic foods and the costs to produce them. My choice is to pay for organically produced food.

BTW, there is a small farm in Latah that produces organic carrots.

I looked up the site and got the phone number for Coles and I called them. I talked with Mrs. Cole, really nice lady. Her most expensive apple is the HoneyCrisp, which is $1.99 a pound, but most of them are $1.20-$1.50 per pound. I didn't think that was bad for organic. I also thanked her for going organic for those of us who prefer ogranic.

Wow, that is great, I just saw apples recently for over $3 a lb. Although I found some for $1.99 I will have to check it out. Thanks for your help. This would be a fun time to go up there with all the fall colors coming on right now.

Absolutely, the different kinds of apples come on at different times, so you might want to call.

Teresa Sue - Cole's is the only certified organic orchard/farm at Greenbluff. There was just an article on them in the Spokesman last week. I usually buy apples at Yaryan's when we go up, they are about 40 cents a pound. I was going to check out Cole's this year though.
Do you ever go to the Moscow Farmer's Market - I got some great organic pears there last month

I have never been to the Moscow farmers market, but I need to go, huh? I love pears. I saw on the Coles website they are going to have organic peaches in a couple of years. They have other stuff too.

Teresa Sue - the Moscow farmer's market is fabulous, but get there early. It starts at 8 and by 8:10 there are people walking away with boxes and boxes of stuff

When are they open? Seven days a week? Certain months?

Teresa Sue- It starts in May and runs as late into October as they possibly can. They are only open Saturday mornings.

Teresa Sue - the hours on Saturday are 8am to 12pm. Then there is a Tuesday Grower's market in the co-op parking lot on Tuesday evening from 4:30 to 6:30 - also worth checking out if you are in the neighborhood.

Thanks Farmgirls, I really appreciate the info and I know that Karen does too, although Moscow might be a bit far for her to go.

Whoops - somehow I missed the post from Karen looking for organic - the cousin of the guy who sells in Moscow sells at the Millwood farmer's market. Her prices are pretty good - also organic stuff.
I have only been to that market this year so I don't know who else is out there and what their prices are like. It seems to me that Spokane is more expensive than elsewhere for farmer's market pricing....
