We are looking at opening a horse hotel here on our 18 acres. It's still in the research stage, but it is a serious consideration. Here's how it's supposed to work. Say you are traveling cross country to horse shows and you are very tired, but a long way from home. You call us and we Put your horse in a stall for the night and you either sleep in the truck or trailer. We would like to eventually get mini barns for sleeping quarters, but we have to check on zoning. We are only 2 miles from Interstate 69 - what do ya'll think of this plan?

Lora,
My husband's uncle and his wife have their own "horse hotel" about an hour east of Indy on I-70. I don't know too much about it, but they have a little (very little) cabin out by their barn. It doesn't have running water, but I am pretty sure they have electricity hooked up. They do seem to stay really busy with it, and have hosted people from all across the country, even some other countries, I believe.
I say go for it! |

I have looked at their web site. They have a nice place. I would like to visit and ask questions, but as of yet haven't done so. Thanks for the feed back.

I needed you when I moved across country. We made contacts with friends of friends of friends, and friend's cousin's ex husbands:) They were all kind enough to let my horses and goat get some rest off the trailer and some exercise. The one lady wasn't home and when we called her at work she told us to make our selves at home the door was unlocked and there was iced tea in the fridge. She had no clue about our character but she was kind enough to let strangers use her home. WOW! When I meet cranky grumps that are cynical I think of her and pray for the grouch to be more like her. Anyways off subject... I think it is a great idea. Traveling long distance with horses is difficult and hard on the horses. What a great idea:) Good Luck! Merry Christmas Becky

Get the word out to 'horse transporters' too. They have to stop every so many miles and let the horses out for a minimum period too. We had a little country cafe and ended up setting up some portable corrals outback, tidy little additional income, additional business at the cafe too and lotsa word of mouth referrals
