I have 3 acres that used to be nothing but a hay field. No trees, nothing. We have it fenced on all 4 sides with barbwire. We have a double wide a little ways back from the road and plan for the front yard to be the pretty landscaped area, and the backyard to be the farm stuff area. The acreage is 1 acre wide by 3 acres deep. My husband has his shop/barn to the right side and back a bit of our house. I want to put a goat/chicken barn (not too big of a barn) and fencing in the back somewhere, but don't want it too close, but not too far away either. I'd love to see farm pics with barns, placement of things in relation to the house, etc so I can get some ideas. These will be permanent things so they have to be done right LOL.

If you have pictures to share, or links showing some good pictures to give me some good ideas, I sure would appreciate it.

Thanks so much!
Jamie

Hi Jamie,
Just a couple things to consider when placing barns and sheds is wind direction and electricity. It's best to be up wind from animals if possible due to the dust, flies and odors. Odors are a part of country life but no one wants to smell the chicken coop while dining outside on the patio. In north eastern Oregon, I need to have electricity where my animals are because I have to plug in heat lamps and deicers in the winter time. I still have to use extension cords to reach some places but only one length and not end to end. (Which can be a fire hazard too.) In the summer months, if the humidity is high, I like to put fans in the coop so my hens get some circulated air. Oh, water shouldn't be too far away either. Hauling water gets old, really fast. Other than that, you have a great opportunity to design your farm just the way you want. Lucky you! I wish you the best!!!
