Watching a wonderful old movie this afternoon.....made in 1946. It is about the hardships that returning soldiers from WWII encountered when they returned. Wonderful visuals(loved the icebox in the old kitchen), wonderful characters (real, feeling people), and it made me cry. It is a very honest picture of what is was like to come home and try to adjust to "normal" life after the life-changing experiences that the soldiers went through in Iwo Jima and other places. If you get a chance to watch this, do it!!!!

I have to say, and I am still watching it, that this movie stands for AMERICA. Anyone getting ready to vote in this counrty needs to watch it and be reminded of what it is to be American.....It is a great portrayal of what it means to sacrifice for our country and remain humble about it, and be a true American. It will take you back to the time before we all became jaded. I know I am sappy but this movie really, really moved me.

Can we be ever be real again? I think so. But we have to know our history......even back to the very beginning.

Miss wilma - your comment sums it up = we all should love without boundaries. We should take pride in the sacrifices our men make for us.

I can't wait to see this one - I'm going to have to rent it when I go to my parents' home next month so they can watch it with me. Four of my great-uncles were in WWII - one wounded on Iwo Jima, one wounded in the Battle of the Bulge, one in the Merchant Marines (I believe they refered to them as an "expendable") and one in the Navy "Sea-Bees." All four returned to the home I live in now. My littlest boy, Arthur, is named for my favorite great-uncle - Arthur Homer Sylvester. He was the one wounded on Iwo Jima. He passed away just under five years ago, living at my parents' home. And one last "Hurrah" for those who put their lives on the line, no matter the battle, no matter the conflict or reasoning behind it...

XOXO, Libbie
