Hey Y'all: I feel privileged and blessed to find this site. I was shopping for dog food today at Tractor Supply and found this awesome magazine called Mary Jane Farms. I thought, man, that sounds like my feelings and beliefs. So..... here I am.
My name is Shirley and I am originally born and bred in Virginia but am now a transplant in Central/South Georgia in a small country town called Arabi. I am 47 and have always been a country girl/tom boy at heart. My dream was to have a farm. In 2006 that dream came true. I have a 12 acre mini-farm with 3 horses, 3 chickens, a rooster, 6 dogs (they just keep showing up :) and a guinea pig. I love it! I am a legal secretary by day and farm girl all other times.
I love love crafts and attempting crafts of all kinds. I love to sew (although I haven't done much of it lately) and I love keeping old traditions alive like when my grandmother was alive. I love canning and growing my own food. My ultimate goal would be to be self-sustaining. ONly one problem....I can't kill my animals. ha ha. Too soft hearted for that.
I am so looking forward to meeting all of you who are very like-minded and kindred spirits. I am so psyched about finding this website and look forward to delving into all the cool things I can learn. Have a very blessed day!!!
Thank God I live in the country! |

Welcome from South Carolina. Sounds like you got it going on! I, also, would like to be self sustaining. But I find it rather hard to juggle all that needs to be done. Oh, yeah, I can't kill anything besides bugs. Goodluck!

Now if I could just get the time to check out all the past posts, etc. so I can start learning some new things or getting great advice. Jobs sure get in the way, don't they? :)

Arabi is a small small town (not sure of the population) mostly farmland. I even have a cattle company up the road from Texas. Go figure! Anyways, I live on this dirt road that when it rains the fun begins. :) It gets really slippery. I don't have 4-wheel drive because you really don't need it here EXCEPT of course when it rains it might come handy. ha ha.
