Hi Everyone! This summer my husband and I bought a little farm on nearly 4 acres. I have wanted to live in the country probably since I was 14.... I'm now 49.... what took me so long? Oh well! We are just believing this is God's timing... we feel such peace here. Tom and I moved here in June and is there anything more incredible than a country morning? I step through our back door each morning and always I feel ten-years-old and as though I'm going outside to play. I climb the rickety stairs of our barn and pitch hay out the door up there for mulch for my garden. I hope I'll never lose this sense of wonder and fun. We have a young orchard of apple, pear and peach trees and grape vines, too, and a garden the size of our whole previous yard! We even have our own pasture and a meadow, too, where someday we'd like to place a screened gazebo for the times our adult daughter visits us as well as our friends. In fact we call our new home Healing Acres because we want this to be a peaceful place for people to visit, those who need a getaway place to think and read and heal from the cares of the world. Mary Jane is greatly responsible for our taking this plunge in our middle years. I've been reading her magazines and books since I found the Hand to the Plow issue in our local supermarket years ago. Thanks, Mary Jane, for all the inspiration you give! If any of you delightful farmgirls would like to see pictures of our little farm, you can go here: http://tanddfarm.blogspot.com/ I'd love to hear what you think! And I'd also like to encourage those of you dreaming of a farm--keep dreaming no matter what your age! Our Healing Acres cost less than $85,000 and there are lots of other great deals here in New York state, even when you factor in the high (high!) taxes. And now I'd better return to all the fun work around here... Looking forward to getting to know you, Debra

Debra, your farm sounds absolutely wonderful! Healing Acres - after I read that I had to check again to see where you are from and if it was a close drive (it's not - maybe someday). When you find the thing your heart has been searching for, it doesn't matter how long it took to find it. What matters is making the most of every day that follows. Enjoy!

Thanks, Everyone, for your welcome and your kind words about our farm. I appreciate each of your comments here and at my blog and I'm looking forward to getting to know you all better. I wish you could all come and visit and I wish I could visit you for more ideas and for lots of fun times.
Right now I am irked about something which happened today, so I'll keep this post short. But if you'd like to know what took place, you can read about it at my other blog, here:
http://debrasotherthoughts.blogspot.com/2008/09/arghh-you-missed-something-today.html
Since many of you are organic farmers, I am sure you will understand why I feel as I do and why I reacted as I did. Thanks again for your comments!....DebraL.

Debra, you've got yourself a real treasure there. Please be aware that a "small" house requires small cleaning! That will give you more time to do your garden and also your MJ fun things. Please paint me GREEN with envy. I often would like to start over, but lack the energy.

Debra, your farm is lovely! I love your house and you've decorated it so nicely. A place like that where I'm from would easily go for $250,000 if not more! My husband is firmly entrenched here in Colorado otherwise I'd be up looking near your place in a heartbeat!

Debra - COngratulations! I love that hydrangea bush and your kitchen best, although the entire place looks wonderful! $85,000????? That, my dear, was a real steal. How wonderful for you!

Hey Debra! We're nearly neighbors! I'm east of Batavia...your farm is wonderful! Congratulations to you, and wow, what a great price! I just love your baking pantry. We will be building our dream home here on 12 acres some day soon I hope, we have a pantry in our blueprints. I can't wait!! Love that early farmhouse charm!! I'm new here too, and having a blast! I know you will too ~ ENJOY!

Hi Everyone... I just wanted to thank each of you for your comments and compliments about our little farm. I really appreciate each one. And Brenda Lee--how fun that you live so close! Maybe we can meet one day--we sometimes travel to Batavia, in fact, one of my favorite authors, June Strong, lives there. We also like to visit the town of 'Gaslight' in the hills above there.
My mother is flying out here from California in less than two weeks so I've been so busy painting our rooms and furniture and working outside so I've not been able to visit you all as much as I'd like. Farm life is a busy one! There are still apples on the trees to be brought inside and tons of tomatoes and broccoli and--well, you know... But I did just want to pop in and say thanks so much! (Oh, and isn't the autumn issue of Mary Jane's Farm just the best?!) :) Blessings, Debra

debra! hi and nice of you to join us! i enjoyed your blog immensely... your farm is beautiful! and i am also jealous of the price. but so happy for you to have found your jewel for a wonderful price! i'm in love with your kitchen... love your decorating. i was horrified with the "incident" in your blog. i will have to figure out how to subscribe and register so i can comment on it at your blog. but i say, keep up the good work... that's all you can do.
