This morning the house was FREEZING when I woke up. Of course, Nora who kicks all of her covers off was cold as well. So I decided to make us some nice brown sugar steel cut oatmeal.

I made enough that tomorrow we can have it again and not have to wait for it to cook. It takes about 20 minutes to make, but it is so much better (in my opinion) than the instant oatmeal! Yum! Chewy and kind of nutty. Nora loved it!

I just remembered we have some dried up raisins. Tomorrow we will have raisins in our oatmeal as well!

It sure is starting to feel like fall now!

I know this morning when I took the dog for a walk I could see her and I's breath. So I decided to walk on the hill that goes TOWARDS the sun instead of away like usual. It felt SO good to be cold, but to have the sun warming me up.

Whoa!!! Wait!!! Did Amanda just say it felt _good_ to be out in the cold?! My friend, I think that is a statement for the record books!

Okay, okay, all teasing aside. It is wet and rainy hear so I am huddling inside. It actually feels nice! Cozy and lazy! The only thing we are missing is a fireplace!

Although I enjoy cool weather, I'm not hurrying Fall or Winter... my 40-something-is-mumble birthday will be here soon enough!

Steel cut oats are the best, they are so crunchy and flavorful. They are definitely worth the wait, it still isn't cold enough here to go with oatmeal for breakfast, but I'm ready for it when the cold gets here...

It's getting much cooler here in the mornings too. You can feel a different kind of chill to the air - Fall! I love Fall and so excited it's here. We turned on the gas fireplace the last two mornings to take the chill off the house. It felt really good.

Alee - your breakfast sounds yummy. Nothing warms you up like a nice, hot bowl of oatmeal.

Susie, I sure agree with you on the heat here I'm up near Chattanooga and it's SOOOO HOT here. I go outside and in just a few minutes I'm soaked. So I can't wait til fall, my favorite time of year. The older I get the more I like the cool weather. I can't even imagine it being cold yet. Enjoy!

Yep! It's still cold out. It's cool enough out that I am enjoying the heat that my oven puts off in the morning when I make that first pot of tea or make a batch of oatmeal!

Hi Alee,

After Labor Day it tends to cool down. Seems wierd to have it this cool, yet the trees aren't really putting out Fall colors. Every couple of year we get a snow day towards the end of Sept. Put yur camping stove and all in a box in the house if you haven't already. Once the snow hits the trees with all those leaves still on, it pulls the branches down and that causes power outages around town!

Recipe for crockpot breakfast. I haven't tried it:

2 cups milk
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 Tbsp. melted butter
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 cup regular oats
1 cup peeled, chopped apple
1/2 cup chopped dates or raisins
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Preparation:
Spray the inside of a 3-4 quart slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray. Combine all ingredients in the slow cooker and mix well. Cover and turn on LOW setting. Cook overnight or 8-9 hours. Stir well before serving. 8 servings

Alee: Could I please have the recipe for your brown sugar steel cut oatmeal? I've never had it but it sounds like it would be real tasty for our breakfast, too! Thank you, Susan

Hi Susan!

You will need to boil 4 cups water, then add 1 cup steel cut oats. Boil until mixture starts to thicken, then simmer for 20 minutes. Let sit for 5 minutes to cool and absorb water. Sprinkle brown sugar on top while still hot. I usually use half a teaspoon per bowl and stir in. It's so good! And Nora loves it too!
