It's sand plum pickin time here in the midwest. We call these small tart plums 'sand'plums but I have heard other names for them around the country like 'beach'plums or 'wild' plums. I make jelly with them. How do other farmgirls use these wonderful fruits?

I make jelly too. My plums are almost ripe and ready to pick. They are small like sand plums but a little different. I have canned juice from them too, but the jelly goes over best. I like them fresh best of all and make myself sick every year eating too many in one day! I like to add the homemade plum jelly to barbque sauce ..yum...or to dip eggrolls and like that in I add chopped hot peppers and stir them in!

Are Sand plums like the ones we call wild indian plums? We get these in late August and they are almost black on the outside but yellow and sweet on the inside?
This is the first year I have made jelly from them but I always eat them when I can. They are yummy.
