Ok Farm Gals! I need a band of prayer warriors to surround me daily with prayers. I have 150 lbs to lose and I need to do it now before my health fails me worse than the aches and pains I have now. I have developed plantars faciitis in my left foot and a nasty ankle that swells a lot- walking with a limp from the PF doesn't help and neither does having nothing but uneven terrain to walk on. I also have bursitis in my right knee. I am 39 and have lots of littles who need a mama to run around with them, take them to the park, go hiking etc... I can't do this in my current condition.
Plus in a year or so when things are much better I would love to have another little one but right now due to the stress of life and being overweight I have very irregular cycles- like once every 2 to 3 months.
I need to get the weight off. We have decided that we want to go back to the McDougall program. It is a lowfat vegan program. Jeff has high blood pressure and probably high cholesterol as it runs in his family- even his healthy younger sister has it. He also has 50 lbs to lose. The whole family will be eating this way with the growing boys eating more fat than the rest of us- they can have nuts, seeds and nut butters.
I have not been able to stick to a diet for longer than a few weeks for 14.5 years! The stress with hubby's drinking was more than I could deal with and though I wanted to lose weight I just couldn't stick to it. Hubby is sober and now realizes that he had no right to put me down about my weight problem. He understands that he wouldn't be sober today if I had teased and tormented him about his drinking problem or if I hadn't encouraged him. He seems to be on board in encouraging me.
whether or not he sticks to it is another story- BUT I can't get discouraged by his words anymore. I have to do this for me no matter what anyone says to me. No matter what discouragement comes my way.
So I would greatly appreciate your prayers that I would have the self confidence and strength that only God can give me to stick with it this time and get healthy once and for all!
Thank you!

Blessings, Debra

AH Debra, I so get that challenge. It is so hard to get the weight off. Have you found a program that you are going to follow?

Tina, I will be praying for you too..
My whole family and I will be following the McDougall program- it is not a diet but a lifestyle change. It is lowfat vegan. starch based- but whole grain. You can eat as much as you want- as long as it is low fat, vegan, not processed junk, whole grain, fruits and veggies. I followed this program in 93 and lost 75 lbs. I hubby has some health issues that eating this way would help as well.

Debra,
I am familiar with the program and it seems to be a good one. I have been in the battle to. I just went through the caffine withdrawls and am feeling, finally like it would be OK to keep my head attached :)....I am drinking a lot of water. I am following the Jordan Rubin plan~ however I am trying to eat more raw fruits and salad.. More of a Combination of hallelujah Acres and Jordan Rubin... but either way.... it truly is a change in life habits isnt it? best luck to you.. lets keep talking each other through!

I will be praying for you, Debra, and you too Tina and Rene! When I'm under a lot of stress I stop eating. Isn't it funny how we react to situations in our lives differently? Stay strong, ladies. God wants you to be the best you can be! Susan

Isn't Jordan Rubin the Maker's Diet? I could be wrong. I am familiar with Hallelujah Acres. We have been raw in the past. We couldn't do it so the McDougall with lots of fresh fruit and veggies was the next best. We drink green smoothies daily. everyone prefers raw veggies to cooked so that makes it easy.
Susan, thank you for praying. and you are right God wants us to be the best we can be. I know that I am not living the life God wants from my because I have allowed my weight to dictate my life.
I watched Queen Sized last night and was crying my eyes out by the end. I so understood her. I also lack the self confidence and that is what I am working on.

Debra,
Yep Jordan Rubin and the "makers Diet" are the same. Although I found the Makers Diet book very commercial~ his second book isnt as much and comes with a little devotional which helps. OK so I am really trying to eat the 80% 20%~ 80% raw and 20% cooked, but unlike the H acres we do eat grassfed beef and fish and chicken, Raw Milk and Raw Milk cheeses in the 20%. And when I am on the road the 20% is harder to juggle, but...............Since my DH works for Bolthouse Farms finding carrots are never an issue.. and I too drink the green stuff....Which I still swear in instrumental in the being drug free from a Lupus diagnosis....

Maybe we can get Maryjane to write a "farmgirl dietary lifestyle book next", as she really has it down. I saw a book in barnes and noble that caught my eye and reminded me of Maryjane a little it was called something like the clean food diet~ which was just eating foods in thier truest form~ food that is actually food and not some version of it....

My husband and I are celebrating our 24th wedding anniversary this weekend and of course I "promised myself I would be skinny for it", HA.. I am already telling myself "maybe for 25.........I think in my case it is a case of "stop planning and start doing". So today is a new day.. are you journaling what you eat? that is my committment to self today. write it down, drink a lot of water, and move.... Best of luck to you... I am walking right beside you today...........

Debra- just a little "food" for thought- If you call it a "diet" then in your mind it will never be a permanant thing- where as if you call it a lifestyle change it makes it easier to accept. Good Luck and keep us posted.

I agree Lillian. I am trying to remind myself to stop using that d word. It is a lifestyle change- as the whole family is doing it along with me- though the boys and hubby gets more healthy fats- tofu, nuts/seeds.. My 15 year old does have about 20 lbs to release. So she is doing it along with me and will add in more fats when she is at a healthy weight for her height.
Rene, I made a green smoothie this morning that is good.. this was enough for to give the 3 older kids 32 ounces, hubby and I had 32 ounces and I sent dh with 2 32 ounce jars of it.. there is still over 1.5 gallons for drinking the rest of the day. So in this smoothie is a 30 ounce can of pinto beans, a little over 1 cup of pureed sweet potatoes, over 1 lb of spinach and parsley combined. I pureed this down. Then I poured this off and used it as the base for the fruit smoothies. So into the blender went a little over 2 cups of the goop then I added frozen bananas and lots of frozen mangos and water enough to get it to blend. I like making more than needed for breakfast because I have snacks for later and enough to send some to work with hubby. He has hypoglycemia so it is good for him to have extra- the beans in the smoothie help to even out his blood sugar.
I also sent him with a bowl of lowfat hummus and a kidney/black bean/salsa dip with wasa crisp bread crackers. I threw in some dehydrated mushrooms- he loves to snack on them.
I will be praying for you today!

Blessings, Debra

I wish I could stop eating when I get stressed.. I was raised in a family that everyone ate when they were stressed.. I need to fill that void with God not food.

Debra, you are in my prayers. I understand where you are coming from.
Eat when I'm stressed, eat when I'm bored..... It's really tough.
I'm trying to develop some hobbies that keep me distracted from eating.
So far sewing and reading seem to be helping.
Hang in there and stay strong!!

I wonder if you have thought about joining TOPS? You can google it to come up with their site. It is just a weight loss support group. You weigh in once a week and then go to a 30 mintue meeting (you can skip the meeting sometimes if you want). It is just a group of people who all struggle with weight loss and who support one another. Many towns and cities now have a group and you can search for one on the site. It costs $28 to join yearly and then each week you pay $1 fee and 25 cents if you gain. The top loser each week gets $1 back. I feel so much support going to the group each Tuesday and have lost 5 pounds since joining two months ago. I am trying to get my pre-pregnancy body back!

Elizabeth, There is nothing like that local. I live 30 minutes from the nearest city. And I have 6 children to care for. So it is not feasable right now. I am so glad that it is working for you.

Oh yeah, duh!!! I forgot that most everyone on here lives out in the country!! I'm lucky because our meeting meets two blocks away at a church. I bring the baby (whome I am nursing) and leave the other two kids at home with hubby. Then rush home and make supper!
I will pray for you though. I know how difficult it is to lose weight and pressing health matters don't help any. Just remember that you put the weight on one pound at a time and just to take it off that way. Even loosing 1/4 a pound per week or so is a wonderful start and very do-able. God Bless!

Debra,

I'm praying and pulling for you too. It sounds like you have the determination to live this healthy lifestyle. I need to lose a lot of weight as well. I eat more than I should especially when stressed and I've been stressing a lot lately. I'm going to try and start taking better care of myself. I'm finding it hard to stick to a healthy eating plan two days in a row these days, but I'm determined to try and do better. Good luck!

Lainey, I will be praying for you too! I am so excited to announce that I lost 5 lbs! Yep.. Of course I know that was water weight.. but I have never lost 5 lbs in one day. I usually wait a week to weigh but I was too curious.. I even had a few fat free pretzels right before bed- but I was starving!
I think I ate a lot of food yesterday.. 70 ounces of green smoothie (spinach, parsley, pinto beans, sweet potatoes, bananas and mangos)this was split between breakfast and a afternoon snack. For lunch I had a plate of white rice with soy sauce (would have been brown rice had I had any in the house) and some fat free pretzels with mustard. For dinner I had 2 wasa crisp bread crackers (whole grain)- 1 with a thin smear of lowfat hummus, the other dipped in mustard, some more pretzels dipped in mustard.. still hungry so a small bowl of meatless chili with onions on top- yep that hit the spot. drank lots of water.. was hungry before bed so had some more pretzels.
I am looking forward to grocery day as there are so many more things I could have in my house to make for a varied diet.
Thank you all again for praying. I surely felt it!

Blessings, Debra

Thank you gals again for praying. I feel the prayers. I am doing good and feel great. for the first time in a long time hubby and I are waking up headache free. Our late night snacking was causing us to wake up with hangover type headaches. Those are gone. My feet are no longer swollen. Which is nice.

ok.. some changes. You will notice my ticker changes. I decided to break it up into smaller goals. First goal 250. just 25 lbs away. Second change is that God has been doing a work on me. First was unpacking and finding the book Thin Within.. You would not believe how many times I have purchased this book and given it away.. This time I didn't give it away but I packed it away. the enemy wants to blind me to the truth. I was on their forums back in April.. Earlier this week I tried to get back on.. I used the same user id there that I do here. I kept trying to log in to no avail.. Couldn't figure it out.. but I just couldn't get on.. come to find out- for 30 minutes I was using joful mama not joyful.. I kept typing the same mistake over and over and over.. I finally got on and there was a private message- typed over a month ago.. someone had missed my posting and wanted me to know they had been praying for me.
The enemy wants us to believe that we have to follow a special diet in order to lose weight rather than just eating like a thin/healthy person- only when you are hungry and stopping when you are full. enjoying everything in moderation. I do eat tooo much. I deal with my emotions and stress through eating. I tend to choose a diet that I can eat all I want just of certain foods and still lose weight. This is not good. I am never dealing with the issue at hand. I can have pizza- just not a whole large pizza. I can have ice cream just not a half of a carton. And eating only when I am hungry is key.
So this is what I am working on and would appreciate your prayers regarding this new way of eating for me. Thank you all for your prayers and support. My kiddos are certainly happy that they can have cheese again and meat.. My Jacob was starting to lose his pants...he lost weight and quickly- he is soooo active- a diet so low in fat that was too much for him.
I appreciate you all!

Blessings, Debra

one thing any of us trying to lose weight might enjoy is the Wii fit.
We just got one a few days ago and it is well worth the $89 we payed for it. loads of fun and everyone in the family can use it.
It gives you quite the work out.
you have to already have a wii console..this is the extra part..not just the bowling and tennis games..but this one has a step on pad..and then there are things like running, yoga, strength and balance excercises and so on.
it measures and tracks your weight and bmi as well as your progress day to day. keeps track of your work out times and recoprds that..and also keeps track of your "center of balance" and posture.very thorough and very fun.
