Just heard this little news item:
A woman in Arkansas went to a second-hand shop to find a Halloween costume . . . saw a white double-knit prom dress . . . hmm, that looks familiar, she thought. Oh, my, it was her own prom dress that she had sewn 33 years earlier! Now it has a place of honor in her sewing room.
Isn't that a 'stitch' ? |

The closest I want to get to reuniting with any of my prom dresses is groaning over the pics every once and a while.

While shopping at our local thrift store I found a huge stuffed Santa pillow I had made years ago. I know it was the same one because I had stuffed it with shredded worn out nylons. It is now on our couch for Christmas.
Especially in a small town it stands to reason that some of our stuff will find it way back to us.

Kennie Lyn, How fun to have found your Santa pillow back! I've purchased stuff back at my neighbor's garage sale that she bought at my garage sale years earlier. Sheesh.
The amazing thing to me about the prom dress is that anyone would have kept a double-knit polyester prom dress for that many years! |

All of mine and my sisters fancy dresses are still hanging in our mom's closets. I don't suppose avocado green tulle dresses will ever come back in style. I know there is a pink double-knit fancy dress in her closet. It is weird the things you can't get rid of.

I just wish I could come even close to fitting into my prom dress!!!!! It was lavender dotted swiss with little puffed sleeves and I thought I looked like princess in it. I actually looked like a 12 year old.

Jenny - I can just see you in that dress, and I see a princess for sure.
My prom dresses, junior and senior, were yellow and pale sage green. I still think they were pretty. It would be fun to have them back. The green one, circa 1967, was long and straight in a shantung material with a sheer over it. The neck was like a jeweled collar and the dress cut up to it revealing only my shoulders. The yellow one was a princess style with yellow embroidered daisies on the bodice. The skirt was pale yellow taffeta with a sheer over it. The neck was scooped and it was sleeveless.
I really did not have much fun at my proms, but I loved the dresses!

Oh, Jenny -- love that dotted swiss! Your dress sounds like the bridesmaid dresses that I made for my older sis and me for my oldest sis's wedding (1969)! Mine was yellow, hers was mint green.
jp, your dresses do sound dreamy. The yellow with daisies -- how very cool. We wore daisies in our hair at our sis's wedding. Those were the days. |

My prom dress would have been from 1975..and did look like a rather long bridesmaid dress I guess now that I think about it. I had lots of fun at my prom...my best friend, Marcie, and I double dated.

The dress I wore to my sister wedding was a robin egg blue dotted Swiss, made by my aunt. It had an empire waist, a v neck and long full sleeves, loved the fabric. I still have the dress I wore to high school graduation, a pink shantung sheath. Very short, it was 1968. I couldn't even get it over my head now, let alone on me. But it is in my cedar chest. My younger daughter wore it once when she was about 10.
