Just picked up a mega size stack size stack of books on interlibrary loan.
This is a remarkable book ---- full of stories, apron images and even a pattern. 
From the Simplicity patterns of the 40's & 50's to the stories behind each apron, this book is a treasure.
The author has a traveling apron show and website "Apron Memories" at http://www.apronmemories.com/ ---- this is the best website for aprons out there. Totally addictive.

I too just found this book in my library. I fell in LOVE! I have since been scouring the thrift stores for aprons and old tablecloths to make into aprons. Just what I needed, something else to covet!

I have that Apron book too....I read it over and over...something special about it for sure! Has anyone made an apron from the book's enclosed pattern?

I have great memories of my grandmother's apron - light and airy with lots of little orange carrots all over it. Maybe one reason why we have vivid images of aprons from generations gone by is that, as waist-high kids, we were the perfect height to really appreciate them!
I think I need to find a copy of this book. |

| When I was a little girl, my mom had a housekeeper named Virgie. She always wore a soft cotton dress and apron. She smelled like cookies or bread (at least as I remember) I just remember how soft her apron was, with a big pocket...oh, and a hankie. |

Linda and another wonderful thing about the website and books is that EllynAnne is also a Farmgirl on the Farmgirl Connection!! Don't know if you knew that ... but she is one of our very own!!!

| I have this book too, picked it up at a book fair at work about a year ago. I was so excited! That was before I found the MJF website and I thought I was the only one around that had a thing for aprons!! |

For many of us aprons are memories. Just thinking about or wearing an apron brings up memories of my Great-Great aunt, my Great grandmother and my great aunts. When I was a child I lived with my Grandmother often and we always wore apron (mine a make shift one from a linen towel =)) in the kitchen to cook or wash up...and wearing an apron brings back the memories of our time spent together. Of that bond. I feel like they are with me in the kitchen again when I wear an apron...so many good memories in an apron.
I'll have to go find that book thanks!

Boy, from reading all the contributions to this thread it struck me, aprons are the fabric version of comfort food, LOL (along with quilts)
I never really had anyone in my childhood who wore aprons, but I always felt I should have had, and aprons really are a symbol of so many ideals of what is or should be, good, loving, and even stablility, with our relationships/families/and even our nation.
I have made a few aprons, then I give them away. I am going to get one done for me. I should do several for me. In fact we should make a commitment here girls to apron up!! Who's with me?

I'm with you Teresa Sue. I have so many aprons I have collected over time and some have been given to me by other farmgirls. A sweet and precious reminder of friendships everytime I wear one of them. My eldest daughter has made me some ( she is also a farmgirl on the forum) and I treasure each one. I will have them to pass along to children and my grandchildren.

Teresa Sue, I could not have said it better myself (aprons are the fabric version of comfort foods)!
Yes, you need to make that one special apron just for yourself....find a piece of fabric that reflects your personality, be it vintage, retro, quirky or polka dotty.....and be it simple and unfussy or frilly over the top, just enjoy the heck out of it!
Wear it, wear it, wear it.....
I think I will attack my fabric stash tonight to make myself a "fun" apron,,,,ok, Teresa Sue, I am with you, anyone else?!

| Hello Folks...I am new to this computer thing but love Mary Janes books and decided to give this a try. What apron book? I have "THE APRON BOOK by EllynAnne Geisel and " A IS FOR APRON by Nathalie Mornu .They are great ! I have pasted in them any ideas I found in magazines allso. Ilove my aprons they save my clothes and are a fashion acessory in them selves.I want to make them to sell when I get the Time. OH and is there an official "introduce yourself section somewhere here? I do not know how to retreave my Email yet so could someone answer me here? Thanks ever so much have a great day |

My darling man got me The Apron Book for our anniversary. I did a post about it on my blog with the title of the book as the header and EllynAnne commented on my post! My mother in law recently gave me 8 of HER mothers aprons, they are aged 35-50 years old. I wear them now, and just LOVE the softness of the worn cotton. Today I'm wearing one that looks like it was made from a tea towel. It's white with a big clothespin pocket with large strawberries on it. I can tell one of the patterns must have been a favorite because there are two aprons in that style. Some are store bought and some I can tell she made. What quality sewing!
Well, that dinner isn't going to cook itself so I'd better get...

| Hello folks...I may have gotten my apron books through the Homestyle Book Club or Barns&Noble.A is for aprons has"25 Fresh&flirty Designs"and they are right.They have waist designs including some very fancy satin,ribbon and tulle designs which in my opinion is worth the price of the book in themselves!I really want to make some for the holidays!!!They have cute smock styles using cotton,and some out of shinny material.They have plain & fancy,with & without pockets.The book gives you all the patterns and instructions.For myself I would rather get the patters at 1,99 pattern sales at Joeannes fabric .I have enough trouble reading instructions as it is. You can allso get the book through their publishers at www.larkbooks.com For those interested in aprons it is certainly worth the trouble to get it.If any of you have access to an embroidery machine I suggset embroidering all sorts of pockets .That way the stabaliser\interfacing is beteen pocket and apron.My friend has a embroidery machine and when I go over I will do a bunch of pockets then add them to aprons ,bags or whatever. gotto go grandson calling richere |

| I have that book also ,it is great .I have made a couple of aprons but none of hers yet.I bought a magazine at bookstore called APRON*OLOGY .It is also inspiring.I hope next to get MaryJanes Apron issue.I love wearing aprons ,they help me feel more capable and confident and just plain happy.If I ever figure out this computer perhaps I'll be able to post some pictures. |

Isn't it amazing that we are from all over the country and so many of us were drawn to the Apron Book at the same time?
Just proves that we sisters are plugged in to a different wave length but it seems to be running through us all concurrently. Love that
Can't wait to put the letters from my Pen Pals in my apron pocket and just know that they are there.
