I am going to take horseback riding lessons!
I wrote to a bunch of stables this morning and am hoping to hear back in the next day or so. I am determined to find a place that I can take lessons through the winter. Hopefully I can pay ahead of time. It's going to be great exercise and will give me a bit of my horse fix all while getting me prepared for the day when I can bring home a horse of my own!

I hope you get a horse soon. Do you have a name picked out yet? If so, let us know. You'll get alot of exercise, but you will be sore the first few days! LOL Keep us posted.

| years ago i was really suffering from depression and my therapist, who knew me very well, prescribed at least 2 hours of riding per week. it was like a vacaton for me. since the closest riding stable was almost 2 hours away hubby soon bought me my own horses! sadly i had to sell them when i left michigan. now i am afraid i am too crippled from this stupid fibromyalgia to even consider riding now. enjoy it for both of us! peace connie in alaska |

Marly- If I can scrape up a down payment- I want to buy Tala:
I will certainly ask if they will barter, but right now I just need to ride! So I don't mind paying either.
Connie- You should see if there is a stable that you could ride at- it might actually help your Fibro!

You'll get that GORGEOUS filly Alee!! Just keep your eyes on the prize! And just think, when you finally DO get to bring her home, you'll be a confident rider-- just what a young horse needs!
And Connie-- have you thought about riding a gaited horse? Maybe a Paso Fino? We got an older gal this past winter from a lady who got her after a serious back injury. Her doctors told her she COULDN'T ride, but she loved horses so much she couldn't NOT ride! She said the horse's smooth gait actually HELPED her physical recovery and, of course, kept her spirits up in the process.
Paso's don't move like other horses. There's no "bounce" to their movements like most breeds. They are considered the "Cadillacs" of the horse world, even though those legs move like CRAZY underneath them! They are also just the right speed too -- they have a walk, faster walk-- but no RUN! Great horses. Just beautiful and with wonderful personalities to boot. Even our old girl, who's suffered some MAJOR injuries, and probably neglect in her 17yrs (she has been through two different rescues that I know of), but is STILL the sweetest thing! that filly is beautiful! she has such a pretty dished face, is she an arabian?
i have seriously considered a riding stabe and if thee were one with pasos it woud be geat but alas there are none. my aunt,at over 85 yrs of age, still rides her paso and swears by her being the best of the best! the few riding stables within a 2 hours drive are all quarter horses (yuck! too rough!) and they cost upwards of $75 per hour!! that is riding in a ring which wouldnt do me much good. i need the peace of the ride as much as anything. i have settled for my 4 wheeled horse, a 4 wheeler! not as quiet but the vibration actually does help unless i am having a major flareup. the added bonus is that we dont have to feed it unless we ride it lol. you ladies that ride just send those peaceful, relaxing thoughts my way when you ride, and oen mroe thign, if any of you know any "cowboy" songs sing one fo me while riding! my sis and i used to sing tear-jerker type cowboy songs everytime we rode lol. what fond memories this thread has brought to midn! thank you! peace connie in alaska |

i guess you dont lose the ability to tell an arab from other horses lol. my first horse was an ibn merzaz son. in fact he had bask in several of his lines! seraaz was his dam and she is a camaro daughter he is a bask grandson or great grandson. i got him really cheap, only $400!! he had gotten loose with a bunch of other yearlings and had a terrible cut on his leg and they didnt think he would be able to be shown. had they kept him he would have died of gangrene the way they were treating it! it stunk like crazy! i called our vet and he gave me some meds and told me how to treat it. he only had a few white hairs from it! he was a great little horse until i sent him to ta trainer who had never worked with an arab before and she made him into a great broc! in the end, with being retrained by his new owner, he became a "baysitter". he would be 28 yrs old if he isi still alive.
tracy, not only does my aunt still ride but she goes on week long trail rides! she is quit the woman! lol.

Alee, that's a good idea. If you can't get your horse now...note I'm saying 'now' not never....riding lessons will fill the bill. However, you WILL get your beautiful horse one day....think positive!

She is beautiful. Will keep my fingers and toes crossed that you can bring her home soon. I used to ride every week, but haven't been in almost fifteen years. It it something that I so miss.
