Haha! Today at an antique store! Yes, girls, I found me a milking pail. lol. I almost missed it too. My mom and I had bought some old ball canning jars for a good deal and I was standing there and right before my eyes was a big white enamelware pail with a black rim (just like my canning pan) and a handle. I wish I could take pictures but right now, I can't because I need to buy rechargeable batteries and I keep forgetting. I have so much to put up on my blog and show! The funny story I want to share with you girls is... I went over to grab it.. found it was 8 bucks... well, I got to have it, I announced that I found my milking pail and Mom laughed.. and the guy checking us out was standing there giving a funny look, I told them, "You don't think I'm serious?!" and gave him this look... He must have found it endearing (?) .. he told me to ask the other lady over there if she couldn't give me a better deal, I went to ask her and she gave me a dollar off. I got it for $7 ... and mind you.. this certain antiques store in the middle of the city was full of "rich" antiques... Hahaha. It was very funny. I will never forget the look on that guys face.

Brooke -
My first thought was humm, I wonder what it was used for before. I hope it could not have been a chamber pot! :)

I'm sure it wasn't used as a chamberpot, and I hope there is no lead in it. I have never heard of enamelware having lead in it either, though of course it bears checking out, but it sounds like the perfect pail. Well done.

You know... I had that thought flitter in my mind but I just don't really think so ... lol.... Actually, comparing the photos... my pail is a bit wider and larger...To me, it looks like it could've been used for miliing or feed or maybe even picking fruit off trees or something.. and it's ALOT better condition than the one shown .. well, at any rate, it will look good with flowers or something in it ... I don't want cows.. just want milking goats....

Chamber pots are usually short and squat, so when you squat to use it, it doesn't tip over. And they often had a handle on the side. Even after they got indoor plumbing in '58, my stepmoms parents in Kansas used the chamber pots upstairs at night. |
