Tomorrow I'm going to visit an open-air museum in the south of England, where they have traditional farm buildings, crafts and a few farm animals, here is a bit more about it:

I love visiting these sorts of places, and it keeps me inspired and thinking about what my farm is one day going to look like. I will share photos from the trip in the next few days!

What a beautiful place to visit Debby! How interesting to see what farm life was like in past centuries. I look forward to seeing your pics! I can just imagine the English countryside is spectacular in autumn! Lucky YOU! Thanks for sharing!

I hope you have nice weather for your visit today. I was there with you - I took the virtual tour! What a lovely place!! It's interesting to think how different life would have been back then.
As you think about your farm someday, remember places like this have a staff! No one's farm looks that neat and tidy. LOL
I look forward to seeing your photos.

Well the English weather lived up to it's reputation, as we left London, the sky was beautiful and blue, but down in the West Sussex countryside it turned to dull and grey! Not cold though, so it was quite pleasant to walk around the museum. The museum is spread over 50 acres, so we had a lot of walking to do. There was a shop at the entrance that sold a few crafts and foodstuffs, and there were lovely angora scarves with natural dyes - very expensive though! The buildings were very old, timber frame tudor and medieval buildings, and a few Victorian cottages even a 15th century thatched cottage that was in the process of being restored. Most were empty but there were a few set up as a blacksmith, a tudor style kitchen, stables, a rural Victorian school and several had warm fireplaces in the middle of their central room, which is how they had them in medieval days!
The animals were not abundant, there were 2 oxen, 4 shire horses, several free range chickens, a few sheep, 2 Tamworth pigs "for fattening" and millions of ducks as you will see from the photos!! There were little kitchen gardens everywhere that obviously benefited from the piles of horse manure that were located at the edge of one section of farmland!
My favourite building was the old mill powered by a water wheel. You could buy the flour that had just been milled, but I asked for some wheat that was stored in a sack, waiting to be milled. I have a small hand-powered coffee/wheat grinder at home so took some home and it has come out not quite like flour but I will probably be able to make some nice wholewheat bread with it!

Debby! THe pictures were beautiful! My dream is to visit England some day. I have ancestors from Whales. I would love to visit the country and also visti the flea markets in te city!! Thanks so much for sharing.
