I have been lawn sweeping after I mow and feeding the clippings to the horses and goats and I had a load and pulled up to the pasture with it. I was near the runoff for the front hog lot, which always has water in it and some water plants. The ducks like to swim in it a little bit, so when I saw something white in there, I just thought it was my white duck taking a bath, because it was submerged, but a little bit was sticking up, which I thought was her bill. It was kind of rolling around and I kept watching, but it wouldn't come up. I looked a little more closely and saw that it wasn't a duck bill, but a goat snout. I took off running and my hubby asked what happened and I just kept going. I had to run all the way around to the other side of the barn to get in. I jumped into the water, which is disgusting, by the way, and got over to the baby goat and pulled it out. It was tangled in the water plants' roots, but was able to keep it's nose out to breathe. The rest of it was submerged for who knows how long and it was shivering and it's nose and gums were bone white. Hubby brought me a towel and I dried it off and set it down. It couldn't even stand or hardly hold it's head up, so I made sure it was good and dry and laid it in the sunshine. It's mom had gotten loose on me earlier when I was moving horses around, but I had let her graze around wherever, so she didn't know what happened or she would have been going crazy. Once the sun started to go down, I moved the goat into the barn where it was pretty warm and it's brother came over and went into one of the chickens nesting boxes, so I put this one in there too so her brother could keep her warm. Her nose and gums were turning pink again, so I was hopeful that she would be okay. I came out in the morning to check on her, and she was running all around like nothing had ever happened! I guess it was just by miracle that I happened to be in the right place at the right time. This little goat happens to be the sister of the baby goat I saved in January from below freezing temperatures. Another case of being in the right place at the right time!

Wow Heather! That is amazing! I bet that little goat didn't have much time left. It sounds like she was losing strength pretty fast- poor thing!

Oh Heather! I'm so happy you saved the goat. The dear thing must have been frightened! Good for you. Give the goat a hug for me.

OMG Heather.
Just reading about your rescue gave me the chills. I have had a similar situation with a goat that got hung in a tree by her front leg and was almost dead. Same thing right, place right time. I thought I was gonna have a heart attack by the time I got her to the barn......called the vet because her leg was broke.Its ausome that you were able to save that goat !!! Thats so freaky that it was under there tangled up like that. Sounds like that little goat was seconds from death. Thanks goodness you were there and acted quickly.
