The August issue of Crafts-n-Things has a recipe for baking "flowerpot bread" and herbed butter. Has anyone ever tried baking in a flowerpot (bread or cakes)??

Oh my goodness! This was one of those 60s things. I still have my well-seasoned flowerpots around here somewhere. I made whole wheat bread in them when we had soup for dinner. I used the african violet sized flowerpots and seasoned them well (after the first time when I found out what happened when they weren't seasoned......)

Then there is pashka, the cheese cake type dessert we always have for Easter; that is made in a flowerpot, too.

I have had chocolate (cup) cake baked in small flower pot and it actually had a flower on top, it was at one of those musical shows/dinner theaters and the song was "Everythings coming up Daisys" as the performers sang and delivered the desserts to all of us. It was sooo cute!
The bread idea sounds super cute too!

The article does give instructions about seasoning the flowerpots. And of course it says to get the "lead free" version, which they say should be made in the USA. But how do you know? Are flowerpots identified as lead free?

Pashka? Hmmmmm...never heard of that. Would you mind posting or sending?

Oh and a check on the net finds a set of glazed flower pots with wicker holders at Taste of Home for 20.00$ who'd a thunk?

I have stoneware from Pampared Chef that works the same as a flower pot.
