I wish we got three months! We only get June and July here in Arkansas and we have to get a minimum of 60 professional development hours during that time. Sure it is still a lot of time off but I put in at least 50 hours a week during the school year (many times even more) so the summer is a very welcome break!

School starts back here on the 19th so the office is open at school now..I was thinking of taking some cookies by for the teachers on Monday...they are already there this week too. Being a sub I know I won't probably work the first week of school..but you never know. Last week I subbed for a couple program aides during the first week of school. I like doing that too.

Hi Julie:
I taught music in the schools, but had to take a break due to hurricane destruction. I've been off for almost 3 years. At this point, I don't know if I'll ever return. Those lesson plans are not my favorite! Endless hours, at home, of still working. LOL However, I do miss the kids, I miss the music. Enjoy your year at school.

First off-- THANK YOU ladies for your dedication to our children, you are TRULY A blessing.
Second--- YEAH!!! MY KIDS ARE GOING BACK TO SCHOOL! Sorry. I have 3 teenage boys (one of them won't be going back to school-- he'll be going to WORK!) and I am Soooo looking forward to some peace and QUIET, and a house that's clean for more than just 5 minutes! (My husband thinks I do nothing all day-- but I work my tail off picking up after those boys)

Yes....hats off to all teachers! My daughter is one too and starts back the 20th in Iowa but has been at the school for hours also with no ac getting her room ready for those "special" kids that she adores. It's a little harder for her to go back now that she has the baby but they've had fun together this summer but the baby faired better than the garden this summer! LOL!.

It was back to school day for our teachers also. Miss K starts school on Monday...she is definitely not ready for summer to be over.

| We don't go back till the the 25th...students hit the bricks after labor day. All MI is after labor day. Our first week is all meetings too Julie. I know all the teachers would rather be in their rooms getting ready for kids! My first week is always filled with who's back/new/moved and so on. I handle all the intakes on every student who has learning difficulties in grades 7-12! Last year we had over 20 kids new, all with individual education plans! Whew! Sometimes trying to get records is sooooo hard. We want them learning and in the right environment right away. Even 1-2 weeks in the wrong kind of class can cause huge set backs. I still have reports piled on my desk from last June! Yikes! We are breaking in a new counselor and two new assistant principals this year as well in our HS building and 1 new principal in the junior high school PLUS the REAL backbone of our building (the Principal's secretary) retired! Double yikes!!!! |

Our kids go back on the 26th.. I am not sure where the summer is going... it hs gone by to fast. It seems I never can cram everything into it that I hoped I would last spring.
My dad is a teacher~ One of the best~ His dedication to kids over the years has been amazing. We had kids in our basement ever night as dad would tutor and have homework tables, he is always in on the cutting edge of Technologies for the class room...I guess he sets the bar pretty high! It is a thankless profession sometimes I would guess! But I am thankful that there are those that do it...........and do it well!

T- we have a lot of that stuff this year. I teach in a rural school and half of our HS teachers moved to new jobs as well as the HS principal. They moved EVERYONE to new rooms because we switched from k-4, 5-6 and 7-12 to k-6 and 7-12. The new elem principal they hired last year is related to like 4 of the elem teachers and TOTALLY shows favortism even to the point where she will only talk to them and sends messages to other teachers through them! Thank goodness that I am considered HS even though I teach k-12. It is a mess and has been VERY stressful.
Your right about the principals secretary! Our Supers secretary retired and our HS secretary will retire after this year!

| my daughter starts back on the 18th! i belong to the booster club and the week before, when the teachers go back before the kids, we put up a breakfast for the teachers.....lots of breads, casseroles, yogurt, sweets, etc. i think you all deserve so much credit for what you do! |

| Julie, we had a rearrange too. They closed down our middle school and shifted the 5th grade to the elem and the 6th grade to the JHS. The middle school principal will be a "co" principal at our JH with the idea that the current principal will retire next year and he'll move into that spot. It was quite a tremor through the district. You know how that goes...someone moves then someone fills that and so on. There was quite a bit of ummmm "discussion" regarding the shift. Overall, it was the only way to really trim the budget with any real amounts. Several people have been laid off and that has made for some "bad blood" if you well. We have a bit of nepotism going on in our district too. It can be hard when you are in a small town. |
