I soooo want to enclose my herb garden with forsythia so I can have just one spot in my yard with privacy. But, I need like 25 plants and just can't afford that many.
Would anybody be willing to mail me 25 cuttings? I can send you postage. Not one single person in this area has any even though it is hardy enough for our zone.

Lisa, I have a ton! I would be glad to send you some. However, I have never taken cuttings. Do I cut a certain way/angle/place or just dig up? Let me know and I can put a package together for you. Angie

Ooooh, thank you so much Angie! I so love forsythia. It's pretty much the first color in spring and a nice long row of it will look so cheery from my kitchen window.
No need to dig anything up. The best cuttings would be from the tips of the bushes. I think cutting about 3-4 inches from the tip would be just right. You want to cut at an angle right above a bud or branch.
If you just put them into a ziploc bag with a bit of water in it, it should hold them til they get here. I can send you $10 which covers the flat rate box at the post office.

One word of caution about forsythia is it's very invasive. I do volunteer work at the Morton Arboretum and in the spring we cut a ton of it out of the woods. It had completely taken over the area next to it. It was a lot of work to clear it all out of the other shrubs. Good luck on whatever you plan to do with it.
