My mother and I are becoming more and more alike as years go by... her house is all brass and glass and she has pink carpet, where I go towards wood and neutral tones... my grandma is extremely high strung, and I am usually laid back.

you can be oh so smart, or you can be oh so positive. I wasted a lot of time being smart I prefer being positive.

My mom is not easy to get close to, whereas my motto is more like....douse them with love. I wish I had the opportunity to get to know my grandma more (she passed away when I was 18) but my looking back, she was very very quiet...I can hardley remember her saying a word (she rocked, and knit)...so I'd have to say that I am much more talkative than my grandma.

My Mom and my Grandmom and myself are very close. There are generation differences but my Grandmom is very open minded and has an ineresting sense of humor she's always teasing someone, that how you know she likes you. My Mom is much more serious and quiet. I grew up with both of them being my Mom so I think I got a little of both but got a lot of my Mom in me. I say things somethimes that sound exactly like her.

I come from an EXTREMELY disfunctional family so that's an easy one. I have one grandmothers love of home and craftyness, one grandmothers sense of order and love of children, I have my Mom's wry sense of humor and some of her intelligence. Everything else I have tried to make different, with some measured success.I think my daughters have all turned out more well adjusted than I did, they had a stable loving home with 2 parents...we will have to ask The PinUp Cowgirl to weigh in on this one too!

I waited to have children (34) , Mom had me at 23 and Gram had her first(of 7 !) at 22 right after she finished college in 1922!
Both were open minded, open hearted woman who tried not to judge and remained curious about the world and were always up for something new.
They both defied stereotypes for their generations and that's probably where I saw no problem choosing a career that was traditionally male. I lost both of them within a year of each other and I miss them so, it would have been nice for us all to have been women together.

with a happy heart

I am tougher, physically, then my mother. I love to be outdoors, she has never liked it much.

In her recent battle with Iritis, though, I have a new respect for my mother. She has had to endure a lot, and while fighting depression and the loss of her sight, is still fighting.

I am much like my grandmother, only I am not so quick with the temper as she was at my age. Now we are about equal. I think if the times had let her, Grandma may have chosen a life like mine.

I don't think I am as brave as my grandmother. In a time, (she married in 1908), when her sisters-in-laws were living in big houses, wearing corsets, and having at least some household help, my grandmother lived in a 2 room dog trot cabin, with a dirt floor, wore Levis, and lived a semi-nomadic life following a herd of cows. By her choice. It was a life my grandfather had chosen, but she could have changed that. She made lots of the decisions in their marriage, not always for the best. She rode colts, led pack strings, and drove a team on roads that could barely be called that. She had a quick temper, but a generous nature. She shared everything she had. She was outgoing and fun. In her 80's she still laughed and was very active. My mother in her 90's now, led an advertureous life. She married young, but the marriage fell apart, and she made a life for herself completely different than anyone in our family. She moved to town and educated herself and had a career. She remarried my father, and reinvented herself again. After her children came, she moved us back to our valley, and lived a small town life. She is still very active. She is more outgoing than I am. I am not as social as either of them. I like being alone, I am not sure either of them did. Both of them are more independent than I. My DH and I are for the most part partners, we both have say in what we are doing, but, he has the last call. My mother and grandmother always had the most say and the last word. It sometimes worked out for them, but not always.

Greetings from the morning side of the hill.
