Well, I have read about the pack trip and the wildfires, and now I would like for you all to pray and think good thoughts for us here in Florida, as we face two tropical systems heading our way in one week. I have put in supplies - water, canned goods, charcoal, lighter fluid, and I have many oil lamps and flashlights and candles. But that does not help when a tree falls on your roof!
I am just hoping and praying I do not need them! My daughter's baby has been sick all week and it has been trying. High fever and no reason for it. She had several bad bites last week, so West Nile comes across our minds.
I have been through a hurricane before and it is not pretty. No electricity for long periods of time in this heat is not fun.
Please think good thoughts for us. Hidezgal, I am glad you are back safe and sound. What an experience!

Jeannie!!!! I thought of you this morning when I heard the weather news. I will send you lots of light and love and protective thoughts. Something that I've found helpful is to envision myself flooded in or surrounded by white light. My daughter and her family went through the hurricane last September that hit Virginia Beach. I am so thankful that they are now away from this danger. I trust the baby has been to see the doctor and that help is one the way.... Keep us posted if you can.

Thank you, Clare! Your reply meant so much!
I am concerned about my grandbaby because she had several significant bug bites in the last week and West Nile is always a concern here in the South. She did see the doctor today, and the bug bites were mentioned. Her fever has been as high as 104 and no other symptoms. Her strep test was negative and her urine was clear.
I will keep you posted and thank you for replying to my post! I, too, always visualize a healing white, surrounding light when I pray for protection and care. God does provied.
Thank you, sweet soul!

I will for sure keep you in my prayers too, Jeannie. I thought of you when I saw the weather report too...and it is so scary when a little one is so sick. Hopefully with all the good healing prayers and thoughts she will improve soon. I am glad to hear you seem prepared as much as you can be for the storms. boy, you never know what Mother Nature will send your way..hopefully your area will be spared! We had a tornado hit our tiny town..in UTAH of all places 2 years ago...we had only lived here for a couple months..that was pretty scary!! We were in church when it hit the other side of town...but boy did it do alot of damage..my dear friend, Suzy, in Alabama saw it on the national news and called me...she is used to threats of tornados and like that..I was sure not!! I sure look at the sky alot closer now when there is high winds!! Let us know how your little grandbaby is doing...we all care!!

Thank you all for your great and kind thoughts! It is comforting to know that people are thinking of each other and caring. So far, as you can see, we still have electricity. Yea!
Update is that my grandbaby's fever broke last evening and has not come back yet today. (The power of prayer and positive thinking)! My daughter really dislikes giving her a lot of tylenol or medicine of any kind, and she had been giving it to Abigail since Saturday night, so she is glad for the break.
The pediatrician personally called my daughter this morning even though the office was closed. That sure does not happen much anymore, but this doctor was also my daughter's pediatrician as she grew up. I think she would have done blood tests if the fever was still unbroken. Hope it stays gone.
So, good things so far! As the day goes by, we will see how high the creek flows! I have seen it go over the road and look similar to The Colorado River - brown and fast. :)
Bayoubunch - you are right on about the waiting. For days....watching the Weather Channel and their guys in hats. Been there, but we escaped Andrew. Sorry to hear you sat through that one. It was a whomper - 1993.

Jeannie,
So happy to hear the baby is doing better. Will be thinking of you with lots of positive thoughts as the storm approaches. Please keep us posted and i will keep watching the Weather Channel myself to see how it is going in case you lose your electric.

Jeannie, I'll be praying for you and your neighbors and Florida to stay out of harms way. I have never experienced hurricanes but have seen the destruction on TV. I know first hand the fear you are feeling living in the middle of "tornado alley". I have personally experienced tornado destruction. Last weekend I watched 2 twin tornadoes form outside my front porch about 2 miles away. YIKES! They went back up into the clouds thank heavens. Glad to hear your grandbaby is feeling better. Those high fevers are so frightening. Take Care. Jenny in Kansas

Jeannie, hope everythings going OK in Florida and that your daughter is doing better. I will be praying for her, and all the Farmgirls in Florida. My brother-in-law lives in central Florida and I have to email him soon. We will be leaving for W.Virginia tomorrow and are expecting rain for the next 3 or 4 days, possibly more. I have never had to go through a hurricane (only blizzards and snow storms here, but we've had some terrific thunderstorms some summers, and tornados), so I can only imagine what it would be like. Take care.

Jeannie, I've been thinking of your family and grandaughter. So relieved to hear her fever broke.
Isn't it something how we have turned to talk of weather. It has such an impact on every hour of our lives. I,too, have been reading of the storms. As the rugrats would say, Hold on to your diapies! |

Jeannie...great to hear your grandbaby is doing much better. And yes, what a wonderful feeling to have a physician call YOU to check on the situation. It shows compasion and caring that this society seems to be lacking these days.
I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers as mother nature takes it course. Be safe.

Dear all!
Thank you so much for your kind thoughts! It means so much to me to read them!
The storms have come and gone, and this northern part of the state was spared. But many are hurting tonight. I know you all have probably seen CNN and the coverage of the devastation. My heart goes out to all those who have to rebuild, and who sat through the hours of high winds. Even those who evacuated left their homes seeing them whole for the last time for a long while. Cecelia, I hope your family in central Florida made it through alright.
Blueskies are here again and I certainly appreciate your true concern! Tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards - there is something to contend with in every part of this country! But we are so incredibly blessed too.

Jeannie,
Glad you came through the storm and that you and your family are fine. Hopefully Cecelia's family members are okay too. We have seen the terrible destruction on the news and feel so badly for the people of that area.

Jeannie, My thoughts and prayers are with you all. My father is only 20 mniles away from Punta Gorda where the last hurrican hit. They came out ok, but the devistation was awful in PG from my last coversation with him. One of our agents , at work today, is on his way to Punta Gorda to help his family clean up after the devistation that happened to his family. It's so sad.
God bless you and keep you safe!

Prayers go out to all Floridians that you will make it through the latest onslaught of weather. My husbands relatives made it through Charlie with nothing more than heavy rains and wind, with no major damage. Take care, everyone.

What a rush of affection I felt when reading your posts. Thank you all for praying for Florida. Our state is still picking up pieces from Charley.
We are just waiting to see where this thing is really going to go. Last night my husband and I packed important papers, jewelry, and family photos in case we have to throw them in the car. Unless it gets really bad, we are going to stay put as the roads are like parking lots, and hotels are full. Please pray that this weakens a lot before too many people get hurt.
We are in direct line of the storm up here in north Florida. They say it could be a cat 1 or a tropical storm when it reaches us. I hope it is a tropical storm. We are a heavily forested city, with many huge trees that really cause damamge when they come down.
And we were leaving for North Carolina on vacation next week! Who knows if that will happen now. I will not care, if my house is spared.

Hope everyone in Floridan is doing OK with Frances and her rain. I just heard that there's yet another hurrican forming east of Florida, scheduled for the end of the week. I also read recently that the scientists are predicting more hurricanes of greater intensity in the years to come, due to global warming and other factors. Guess there's nothing to do except be prepared.

Well, you can all say Amen when I say I am tired of the very word hurricane!
We made it through just fine, no loss of lights and power, thank God, at least at our house - there were many in the city that lost power, and many trees down, but not large scale damage. Frances was a tropical storm when it blew right over our heads, and that saved us.
Spent the morning with my husband chain-sawing a pine tree that fell and hauling the logs out of the yard. It just missed a gazebo. It felt good to be outside working.
Okay, is it autumn yet with cool crisp days? I am anxiously waiting!!!!!
