Casey the Clumsy Colt. My favorite babysitter brought it to me when I was in first grade and had the chicken pox. I even named my second son Casey!

The Borrowers. I loved how they took things like wooden thread spools, postage stamps, etc to furnish and decorate. I guess even as a kid I liked the thought of recycle and reuse!

The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch

The ending is fantastic. After Elizabeth beats the dragon, she walks into the cave to save the prince and ..

"Elizabeth walked right over the dragon and opened the door to the cave. There was Prince Ronald. He looked at her and said, "Boy, are you a mess! You smell like ashes, your hair is all tangled and you are wearing a dirty old paper bag. Come back when you're dressed like a real princess."

"Ronald," said Elizabeth, "your clothes are really pretty and your hair is all neat. You look like a real prince, but you are a bum." They didn't get married after all.

Such a hoot!

"Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world."

Little Bear! My mom used to read us the copies she had when she was little.

-------------------------
If the ways is long
Let your heart be strong
Keep right on 'round the bend
Though you're tired and weary
Still journey on to your happy abode
Where all that you love
And are dreaming of
Will be there at the end of the road.

I'd have to say Goodnight Moon. There's something about it that is so calming to little ones.

My Fav is the Wonderful Classic....The Velveteen Rabbit!!! It was definately a favorite of my son........We must have read it a thousand times over the years and I think the book was as worn as the delightful toy rabbit in the story!! ..... To me ..... it is a book for Children of All ages .... including the children in all of us!!!

......"by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't mater at all because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand."

~~~~What a Sweet and True lesson!
Until Later,
Audrey
Miss Rumphius by Barbara Cooney.
In the evening Alice sat on her grandfather's knee and listened to his stories of faraway places. When he had finished, ALice would say, "When I grow up, I too will go to faraway places, and when I grow old, I too will live beside the sea."
"That is all very well, little Alice," said her grandfather,"but there is a third thing you must do."
"What is that?" asked Alice
"You must do something to make the world more beautiful," said her grandfather.
This is how it all starts. What she does to make the world more beautiful is my little secret. You'll have to read the book to discover it for yourself. ;)
Diana- I love The Borrowers too! I even had gerbils names Homily and Arietty!
