Hello!
I should say that while I am new to the forums, I am not a new "farmgirl"! I have been a farmgirl at heart since I followed my grandpa around his farm as a little girl. Although my parents did not farm, I basically grew up with farming in my blood...all of my mother's family were farmers! I knew it was what I wanted to do from the time I could observe the world around me. So, now I have a little hobby farm with my husband and 5 children. We raise dairy goats and chickens and an herb & veggie garden. We run a home-based business making and selling soaps and I am also an herbalist who occasionally works with a local midwife. I also write articles on food and nutrition. We live smack in the middle of an Old-Order Amish community, which has been interesting over the past few years.

About six months ago my husband brought me home a MaryJane's Farm magazine...I couldn't believe that such a thing existed! He knew that I would be thrilled with it and he was right! It was as if I was reading my own thoughts and my own dreams...and the joy of knowing that other women like me are out there! I don't have much time to spend here, being a very busy wife and mother, but I hope that you'll all welcome me when I do have a chance to drop in!

Looking forward to getting to know some of you soon...

Hi Jennifer! Welcome to the forum from Lake Stevens, Washington! You and your hobby farm sound simply amazing! It is so wonderful that you are a midwife as well! I think that when I get pregnant I would love for a midwife to deliver my baby! How great! Anyways, enjoy your farm life. I look forward to getting to know you.

Hi Jenn-

I had to look on googlemap where Montgomery MI is -- even though I grew up in Michigan (Holland area), I didn't know there was an Amish community in the state. I guessed it must be near Shipshewana, and I'm sorta right, right? I went to college in Spring Arbor, which is not too far from Montgomery.

So -- welcome here! What is your town like? Are there interesting shops there? I've gone to Marshall, Three Oaks, Three Rivers, Constantine, etc. Maybe I need to go to Montgomery someday!

Glad you're here.

Hey there, Beverly in Atlanta, MI!

Well, I looked up your town, too. I have relatives on my mother's side in the Atwood/Ellsworth area, so we used to go Up North every summer. But I haven't ventured east of 75 -- I see you are east of Gaylord. That is such pretty country. Looked up Mio, too. Had no idea there was an Amish community Up North!

Welcome to you, too. Looking forward to hearing more from you MI girls!

Welcome Jenn from another new member of this forum. Can't wait to check out your etsy shop.

My husband's Mom is from Michigan. And his Dad went to college there. I love my visits there to visit family. Someday I hope to spend a bit more time there doing nothing but relaxing.
