Hi all,
I'm Jackie, new to the forum. I'm 25, live in California and am a lover of all things farm-y. :) Currently I live in a few acres with my grandparents, looking after them and their property in their old age. I am happy to be back on the "family plot" of land, taking care of things and learning all the weird things that my grandfather (a renaissance man if there ever was one) is teaching me that he's picked up. Currently on the list is welding and beekeeping...last month was irrigation and wiring. It's amazing the things people learned before the "convenience" era...I've certainly given up on suggesting we buy something new- the answer is always "we can fix it". ;)
My hope is to someday have the time and resources to have a small farm supplying honey, goats milk products and a variety of other things to my VERY ag-supportive community. Hopefully the selling and farming will be in conjunction with a therapeutic foster home, which uses the animals and structure of farm livin' to help wayward children.
So that's me, and why I'm here...I am excited to have found others who are into farming.

Jackie:
Welcome to the Farmgirl Site Connection. I'd love to have been able to live with my grandparents when I was young. Enjoy every moment, and listen to their wisdom. Great to hear that you are an animal lover. So am I. I have 7 cats and 1 dog, all of them were dropped off at our house in the country, or came in with the flood from hurricane Rita three years ago. You will love this site. There is lots of wonderful, kind, happy, and helpful people here. Feel free to ask them anything, I have, and I have gotten more information than ever. Welcome, again.

Hi Jackie,
Welcome! I'm new too and love it here! I really admire your goal of opening a foster home. That is something very close to my heart. My husband and I are respite foster parents. I am the Human Resource Admin. for a non-profit that houses 78 children waiting to be placed in foster homes and or adoption. My husband and I have sponsered one of the cabins for the past 5 years, "The Junction", we have the older boys, 13-18 yrs. I love them dearly and unfortunetly most age out of the system. All of our kids are placed with us through CPS. They have been removed from their homes because of abuse, sexual abuse, parents incarcenated etc. It is a very rewarding job. I volunteer on Weds. and the boys have dubbed me "Mama Junction". Some of my boys are at a thereaputic horse ranch this week. :O) My goal is to raise chickens to supply them with eggs. Again, welcome!

Hi Jackie!! Welcome! I learned so much from my grandparents too! You are so lucky to have that!
I think your wanting to do theraputic foster care is awesome. My husband and I have done foster care and 5 of our 7 kids are adopted out of the foster care system. You can make such a difference. I wish more people had the same goals you do..awesome. I am glad you joined us here!!!

It sounds like heaven, your spot on your grandparents' farm and a willing teacher to show you the ropes. Not many people have an opportunity like that these days. How nice that you found MaryJane's, I know we will all look forward to getting to know you here....welcome.
